Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Vision Iconic, a show car that represents a new era of design for the brand. The vehicle serves as a creative bridge between the company’s rich heritage and its technological future, blending opulent, timeless aesthetics with cutting-edge innovations.
Key Highlights
- Features a reinterpretation of the classic chrome grille, now an illuminated “iconic grille” for the digital age.
- Integrates advanced technologies including Level 4 highly automated driving, neuromorphic computing, and innovative solar paint.
- The interior offers a lounge-like experience with hyper-analogue luxury, inspired by Art Deco design.
- Accompanied by a capsule fashion collection and a dedicated design book detailing the brand’s new design philosophy.

Reimagining an Iconic Grille
A central feature of the Vision Iconic is its reimagined front grille. This “iconic grille” is a forward-looking homage to the traditional chrome grilles that have defined Mercedes-Benz vehicles for over a century, drawing inspiration from legendary models like the W 108 and the 600 Pullman. The new design merges heritage with modernity, featuring a wide chromed frame, a smoked-glass lattice structure, and integrated contour lighting.
This design approach aims to give the vehicle a strong sense of presence and identity in the electric and digital era. The Vision Iconic further enhances this presence by illuminating the upright star on the bonnet. The use of animated lighting scenarios is key to the emotional appeal of the digital design, complemented by slim, modern headlights.
A Lounge-Like Interior Experience
The interior of the Vision Iconic evolves the role of the passenger cabin, transforming it into a space of lounge-like comfort and hyper-analogue luxury. As the vehicle is designed with automated driving in mind, the interior becomes an entirely new kind of journey experience.
The design is an opulent, Art Deco-inspired composition of craftsmanship and exclusive materials. The centerpiece of the instrument panel is a floating glass structure called the “Zeppelin,” which houses a refined interplay of analogue and digital instruments. Behind it, a decorative surface features lustrous mother-of-pearl look inlay, which also graces the door panels.
Driver and passenger share a spacious front bench seat upholstered in deep blue velvet. Technology is seamlessly blended into the design with a pillar-to-pillar screen concept, where one of the four digital clocks is shaped like the brand logo and functions as an AI companion. The vehicle floor is clad in elaborate straw marquetry, a luxurious technique rendered in a classic fan-shaped Art Deco motif.

Pioneering Future Automotive Technology
The Vision Iconic is infused with groundbreaking innovations. The vehicle showcases research into an innovative solar paint, a photovoltaic-active surface that could be applied to the bodywork to generate additional range from the sun. Under ideal conditions, this could produce energy for up to 12,000 kilometers a year.
To handle the high energy requirements of future systems like autonomous driving, the vehicle explores neuromorphic computing. This technology mimics the human brain to make AI calculations significantly more energy-efficient and faster, potentially reducing the energy needed for autonomous driving data processing by 90 percent.
The show car is prepared with a Level 4 highly automated driving system. When activated, the driver could relax, take a nap, or stream video, turning the car into a luxurious lounge. The vehicle also features a highly automated parking function. Further enhancing the driving experience is a steer-by-wire system, which eliminates the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels. This improves handling and maneuvering while allowing for greater flexibility in interior design.
The Vision Iconic Capsule Collection
Coinciding with the show car’s debut, Mercedes-Benz is presenting a capsule collection of six outfits for men and women. The collection reflects the luxurious color scheme of the Vision Iconic, with dark blue nuances and silver-gold accents, and captures the essence of Art Deco with fine craftsmanship and exquisite materials. The brand has also developed the ICONIC DESIGN Book, which details the “New Iconic Era” at Mercedes-Benz through exclusive interviews and imagery.
