NIO has achieved a major milestone in electric vehicle (EV) range with its new Ultra Long Range battery. On December 17th, NIO Founder, Chairman and CEO William Li drove a NIO ET7 over 1,000km (621 miles) on a single charge, proving the immense capabilities of the company’s latest battery technology.
A grueling but successful test
The 14-hour journey began in Shanghai and ended in Xiamen, a city on the southeast coast of China. Li was joined by Dr. Fei Shen, Senior Vice President of NIO Power, and Chenxia Huang, General Manager of Tencent News. Despite cold temperatures, which can reduce EV range, the NIO ET7 reached Xiamen having used only 97% of its battery life during the 1,044-km trip.
World-leading battery technology
NIO’s 150kWh Ultra Long Range battery is a technological marvel. It is the world’s first pouch format cell CTP Pack with no thermal propagation design, meaning it is extremely safe and resistant to fire. The battery also boasts a cell energy density of up to 360Wh/kg, the highest capacity and energy density for mass-produced car battery packs in China.
Benefits for NIO drivers
The new battery is compatible with all NIO electric vehicles through NIO Power’s chargeable, upgradable and swappable power service system. This means that NIO users can enjoy the benefits of the Ultra Long Range battery without having to buy a new car. They can simply upgrade their battery at any of NIO’s Power Swap Stations.
A network of Power Swap Stations
NIO has a rapidly growing network of Power Swap Stations, with 2,322 stations worldwide as of December 19th, 2023. This makes it easy for NIO drivers to quickly swap out their batteries for fresh ones, eliminating the need for long charging times.
The future of EVs is electric
With its innovative battery technology and extensive Power Swap Station network, NIO is at the forefront of the EV revolution. The company’s recent 1,000km drive on a single charge is a testament to its commitment to developing long-range, efficient and sustainable electric vehicles.
