Nissan’s Sunderland Plant has launched production of the Qashqai with next-generation e-POWER, marking a significant milestone for the UK facility. This advanced electrified powertrain enhances the iconic crossover’s efficiency and performance, reinforcing Nissan’s commitment to sustainable mobility. Since 2006, the plant has produced 4.5 million Qashqais, averaging one vehicle every two and a half minutes. The updated e-POWER system delivers an EV-like driving experience, combining fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and a refined ride.
Key Highlights
- Production milestone: Sunderland Plant celebrates 4.5 million Qashqais built since 2006.
- Advanced e-POWER: Offers 62 mpg and a 745-mile range (WLTP).
- Reduced emissions: CO₂ emissions cut by 12% to 102g/km.
- EV-like refinement: Cabin noise reduced by up to 5.6dB.
- Sport Mode boost: Adds 11kW for a responsive drive.

Cutting-Edge e-POWER Technology
The e-POWER system, first introduced four years ago, powers the Qashqai’s wheels solely via an electric motor, with a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine generating electricity. This setup ensures instant response and smooth acceleration, mimicking a fully electric vehicle without the need for plug-in charging. The latest upgrades achieve best-in-segment fuel efficiency at 62 mpg and a potential range of 745 miles, making it ideal for long drives. Additionally, CO₂ emissions have dropped from 116g/km to 102g/km, a 12% reduction, enhancing environmental performance.
Enhanced Driving Experience
The new Qashqai offers a quieter cabin, with noise levels reduced by up to 5.6dB, delivering a near-silent, EV-like experience. A Sport Mode provides an 11kW power boost, ensuring a dynamic and engaging drive. These improvements position the Qashqai as a leader in the C-Crossover segment.
Sunderland’s Role in EV36Zero
The Sunderland Plant, employing 7,000 workers, is preparing for the EV36Zero project, which integrates electric vehicle production, renewable energy, and battery manufacturing. The facility will soon produce the next-generation Nissan LEAF and an electric Juke by 2026, solidifying its role as a flagship EV hub.
Nissan’s Sustainable Vision
Nissan’s Ambition 2030 plan drives its sustainability efforts, targeting carbon neutrality by 2050. The Qashqai e-POWER aligns with this vision, offering eco-friendly performance without compromising drive quality. For more details, visit nissan-global.com.
