Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) landscape with the launch of Nissan Energy Share in Japan starting March 1. This innovative service leverages Nissan’s unique energy management technology to optimize the charging and discharging of EV batteries, marking a significant advancement in the utility of electric vehicles.

The development of Nissan Energy Share is the culmination of extensive research and field tests conducted in various locations, including Namie, Fukushima. These efforts were aimed at perfecting Nissan’s proprietary technologies for autonomously managing the energy of EV batteries.

Designed for businesses and municipal governments, the service promises to enhance energy management practices tailored to the specific needs of its clientele. It encompasses a comprehensive suite of offerings, from planning and system implementation to ongoing maintenance, ensuring a seamless one-stop service experience.

At the core of Nissan Energy Share is an intelligent charging management system. This system transforms EV batteries into mobile energy units that can power buildings and communities, achieving more than just vehicle propulsion. By predicting the energy usage of vehicles and integrating real-time data on remaining battery charge and building energy consumption, the system autonomously determines the best times for charging and discharging. This capability facilitates load shifting and peak shaving, optimizing energy use without compromising vehicle performance or user comfort. Furthermore, when paired with solar panels, it enables the direct use of onsite renewable energy, contributing significantly to decarbonization efforts.

Key features of the service include:

  1. Smart charging for load shifting, ensuring efficient energy use by monitoring real-time energy consumption and managing EV charging accordingly.
  2. Discharge management for peak shaving, leveraging EV batteries to supply buildings during high demand periods, thus reducing reliance on the grid and lowering electricity costs.
  3. Renewable energy utilization, allowing buildings with solar installations to efficiently use generated power, supporting the global RE100 initiative for 100% renewable energy usage by businesses.

Nissan’s comprehensive service package includes consultation, system building, and maintenance support, aimed at providing optimal solutions and facilitating the smooth implementation and operation of the system.

As a leader in the EV industry, Nissan continues to push the boundaries of vehicle utility, not only through the development and sale of electric vehicles but also by pioneering sustainable energy solutions like the world’s first vehicle to home (V2H) power supply. Through initiatives like Nissan Energy Share and the establishment of 4R Energy Corp. for repurposing EV batteries, Nissan reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable future, driving innovations that extend beyond mobility to foster carbon neutrality and community development.
