PepsiCo Beverages North America (PBNA) is significantly expanding its electric-powered fleet across California, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. Over the next several months, the company will deploy fifty Class 8 Tesla Semi trucks from its Fresno facility and introduce 75 Ford E-Transit electric vans statewide. This initiative supports PepsiCo’s ambitious pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.
Key Highlights:

- Deployment to enhance PBNA’s Fresno facility operations and statewide equipment services.
- Initiative aligns with PepsiCo’s pep+ goal for net zero emissions by 2040.
- New job training program launched for students at Reedley College and Duncan Polytechnic High School.
- Supported by grants from California Air Resources Board, San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, and California Energy Commission.
“Our fleet electrification is an important part of our pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) strategy and illustrates how sustainability is a core business strategy at PepsiCo—good for the planet, good for our business, and good for the communities we serve,” said John Dean, President for PepsiCo Beverages North America, West Division.
PBNA’s Fresno location is a 170,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that distributes a variety of PepsiCo products, including Pepsi, STARRY, Gatorade, Rockstar, and Aquafina. The facility has been equipped with eight 750-kilowatt Tesla chargers and two Tesla Megapack Battery Energy Storage Systems to power the electric Semis.
Statewide, PBNA is deploying 75 Ford E-Transit electric vans across its 13 locations in California. These vans will support various applications, such as sales deliveries and service support, enhancing the company’s operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The expansion of the electric vehicle fleet in Fresno also includes a new job training program for students enrolled in Reedley College and Duncan Polytechnic High School. The program aims to educate over 100 students annually, focusing on hands-on job training in electric trucks and infrastructure maintenance.
PepsiCo’s involvement in the North American Council for Freight Efficiency’s (NACFE) 2023 Run on Less Electric Depot showcased the seamless integration of electrified Semis into PBNA’s business operations. The Tesla Semis operating out of PBNA’s Sacramento facility and Frito-Lay North America’s fleet in Modesto, California, and Queens, New York, have demonstrated the viability and benefits of such advancements.
The expansion of PBNA’s electric fleet is supported by grants from the California Air Resources Board, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, and the California Energy Commission. These grants are part of the California Climate Investments initiative, which utilizes Cap-and-Trade dollars to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the economy, and improve public health and the environment, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
