Polestar has initiated the production of its Polestar 3 model in Chengdu, China, with plans to expand manufacturing to South Carolina, USA, by mid-2024. The completion of an early production test in the United States marks a successful step towards this goal.
“Polestar 3 represents a significant leap forward for our brand, transitioning from a single-model company to a diverse three-car lineup within the year,” stated Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. “With the successful launch readiness of our Ridgeville, South Carolina factory, we are perfectly aligned with our strategic plans to commence production of Polestar 3 in the USA.”
The launch of Polestar 3 is pivotal for the company, marking the first time a Polestar vehicle is produced on two continents. This strategic move is designed to bolster the brand’s expansion efforts across key markets in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Polestar, known for its commitment to sustainable mobility, is aiming to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) sector with its cutting-edge design and technology. With headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, Polestar’s electric performance cars are available in 27 markets worldwide.
The company’s ambitious roadmap includes launching five performance EVs by 2026, starting with the Polestar 2 in 2019 and followed by the recently introduced Polestar 3. Upcoming models, such as the Polestar 4 SUV coupé and the Polestar 5 four-door GT, alongside the eagerly anticipated Polestar 6 electric roadster, are set to further diversify Polestar’s portfolio.
Polestar is also championing environmental sustainability through its Polestar 0 project, aiming to produce a climate-neutral car by 2030. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis and encourages a collaborative effort among employees, suppliers, and the broader automotive industry to achieve this ambitious goal.
