Porsche Cayenne Electric Debuts at Dubai Festival

Porsche debuted the Cayenne Electric at Dubai's Icons of Porsche festival, showcasing desert-validated off-road capability and the Turbo variant's 850 kW powertrain with advanced traction systems.

Porsche unveiled the Cayenne Electric to the public for the first time at the Icons of Porsche festival in Dubai this weekend. The all-electric SUV made its physical debut against the city’s skyline following its recent digital introduction. The event marks the fifth iteration of the annual gathering celebrating automotive culture and design.

Highlights

  • Public premiere of the Cayenne Electric follows digital debut at Dubai’s Icons of Porsche festival
  • Cayenne Turbo variant delivers up to 850 kW (1,156 PS) and 1,500 Nm of torque
  • Desert validation testing confirmed off-road capability in temperatures exceeding 40°C on gradients over 25 degrees
  • 113 kWh battery features dual cooling plates per module for enhanced thermal management

Desert Testing Validates Off-Road Performance

The Arabian Desert served as a proving ground for the Cayenne Electric during development testing. Located approximately one hour from Dubai, the terrain presented fine powder sand, gradients exceeding 25 degrees, and temperatures above 40°C.

Michael Schätzle, Vice President Product Line Cayenne, noted the vehicle’s handling characteristics exceeded expectations. He described the Cayenne Electric as driving like a much lighter vehicle in dune conditions, with precise control at low speeds and large steering angles.

Test vehicles completed desert validation on standard summer tires across multiple chassis configurations.

Powertrain Specifications

The Cayenne Turbo variant produces up to 850 kW (1,156 PS) with 1,500 Nm of torque. The electric motors’ low rotational inertia enables precise power modulation, particularly beneficial in the Sand off-road driving mode.

Schätzle explained that the powertrain characteristics allow drivers to optimize target slip for maximum grip on loose surfaces. The sensitive accelerator pedal calibration supports controlled power delivery in challenging terrain.

Off-Road Technology Systems

The Cayenne Electric incorporates multiple systems designed for off-road capability:

  • Porsche Traction Management (ePTM): Electronically controlled all-wheel drive operates approximately five times faster than conventional systems, supporting sand, gravel, mud, and rock modes
  • Offroad Package: Increases approach angle to 25 degrees with modified front section, reinforced side skirts with skid plates, and horizontal cooling air flaps
  • Dual-plate battery cooling: Two cooling plates per module regulate the 113 kWh high-voltage battery temperature from above and below
  • Direct oil cooling: Motorsport-derived technology maintains sustained high power output from the rear axle motor in the Cayenne Turbo
  • Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus): Combines electronic differential lock with targeted rear-axle braking interventions for improved traction on loose surfaces

Suspension and Chassis Options

The standard Adaptive Air Suspension with PASM increases ground clearance by 55 mm to a maximum of 245 mm at dedicated off-road ride height.

The optional Porsche Active Ride system, available for the Cayenne Turbo, provides enhanced body control. The system compensates for terrain irregularities directly at each wheel, maintaining consistent wheel loads and body stability in demanding conditions.
