PowerUp America has been selected for four new funding awards under the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, bringing public DC fast charging stations to Chocowinity, Plymouth, Wadesboro, and Whiteville. Kempower will supply the DC fast charging equipment for the new stations, continuing its partnership with the charge point operator. The companies say the four stations are targeted to open in mid to late 2027.

Where Are the New North Carolina Fast Charging Stations?
The four sites are located in Chocowinity, Plymouth, Wadesboro, and Whiteville. According to the release, the stations are intended to expand access to charging for residents, travelers, and communities along North Carolina’s transportation corridors.
The awards extend PowerUp America’s existing footprint in the state. Kempower says the projects carry an additional North Carolina connection, since its North American headquarters and manufacturing operations are located in Durham.

Kempower and PowerUp America Partnership
The North Carolina awards follow earlier PowerUp America site deployments using Kempower equipment across the Southeast.

Project Timeline
The four projects represent the next phase of PowerUp America’s presence in North Carolina. Working with NCDOT, Kempower, utility providers, and local partners, the company says it will advance each location through development, design, permitting, construction, and commissioning. The new stations are targeted to open in mid to late 2027.
