Accelerated Standards Highlight Industry Impact
Prestone’s EVX™ formulations offer low conductivity, extended corrosion protection, and excellent chemical stability for both light- and heavy-duty EVs. The fluids were among the first to be formulated to meet new EV coolant specifications, such as the GB29743.2 standard in China, which has been accelerated to begin implementation ahead of schedule. This standard, aimed at enhancing EV safety by reducing coolant electrical conductivity, is expected to be adopted globally in the coming years.
The EVX™ fluids also meet the ASTM D8566 standard, which focuses on low electrical conductivity to minimize potential harm if coolant contacts batteries. This positions Prestone as a critical partner in the EV supply chain, helping automakers comply with vital requirements. The company’s technologies are designed to anticipate future EV demands.

- Prestone EVX™ Phosphate-based organic inhibitor technology: A low conductivity fluid providing exceptional corrosion protection without silicate, borate, or amine.
- Prestone EVX™ Silicate-based organic inhibitor technology: A fluid offering low conductivity, robust corrosion protection, and enhanced reserve alkalinity for an extended lifetime.
- Prestone EVX™ Non-Ionic inhibitor technology: A super low conductivity coolant specifically designed for fuel cell vehicles, using high-purity, non-ionic corrosion inhibitors.
No Compromise on Safety with Proprietary Testing
EVs operate at high voltages, often between 400 to 1000 volts, making safe energy management critical to prevent short circuits and thermal runaway. To validate the performance of its fluids, Prestone partnered with Exoes, a leading electromobility thermal management testing firm. They created a proprietary test that mimics real-world, high-voltage conditions.
During the test, an 800-volt current was passed through the coolants. Conventional fluids combusted in less than one second. In contrast, Prestone EVX™ fluids maintained low current and prevented combustion entirely, proving to be a safer fluid with a lower risk of shorting and thermal runaway.
