Rivian has officially launched its first next-generation Rivian Adventure Network charging locations, which are now open to all electric vehicles (EVs), not just Rivian models. The first of these charging sites, the Joshua Tree Charging Outpost in California, is now operational. With new chargers designed to serve compatible EVs across North America, Rivian aims to support the broader electrification of the transportation sector.
Key Highlights:
- First Rivian Adventure Network site opens at Joshua Tree, California.
- Chargers available for all compatible EVs, including Rivian R1T and R1S models.
- Sites feature rapid charging up to 900 volts and CCS connectors with NACS support coming soon.
- More charging sites to open in Texas, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New York.
- Charging sites powered by 100% renewable energy matching to support sustainability.
These new charging sites are strategically positioned to encourage more EV drivers to consider electric vehicles for their next adventure. Each location offers rapid charging capabilities of up to 900 volts and is equipped with CCS connectors, along with support for North American Charging Standard (NACS) vehicles using an automaker-approved adapter. Rivian is also planning to introduce native NACS connectors through a future hardware update, enhancing compatibility for all EV users.
The new chargers feature larger displays and a tap-to-pay system, allowing for a seamless charging experience with or without the Rivian mobile app. Rivian drivers will continue to enjoy the same effortless authentication process they currently have, ensuring an easy and convenient charging session.
Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe stated, “Since the beginning, we’ve understood that creating great products like the R1T and R1S only made up half the equation. To achieve widespread electrification, you also need a really good charging network. Now, we’re excited to bring the Rivian Adventure Network–with its ease of use and exceptional reliability–to other EV drivers around North America, investing in a future where charging on the road will be simple, sustainable, and convenient.”
Importantly, these next-generation chargers are designed to meet federal and state infrastructure funding requirements, enabling Rivian to further expand its charging infrastructure with a focus on reliability and accessibility for all EV drivers. The chargers will also help Rivian become a key player in EV infrastructure development, providing an additional revenue source for the company.
Additionally, all charging sessions at a Rivian Adventure Network location are matched with 100% renewable energy, allowing EV drivers to actively contribute to the decarbonization of the electrical grid. This aligns with Rivian’s commitment to creating sustainable transportation solutions and supporting the shift to emissions-free mobility.
