Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is investing $120 million to build a supplier park near its existing plant in Normal, Illinois. This strategic development is set to create hundreds of jobs and strengthen Rivian’s production capabilities for its electric vehicles. The supplier park will bring key suppliers closer to the main plant, improving supply chain efficiency and cutting costs related to shipping, logistics, and warehousing.

Key Highlights

  • Investment: $120 million in a new supplier park
  • Job Creation: Several hundred supplier jobs and nearly 100 direct Rivian jobs
  • Operational Benefits: Reduced shipping, logistics, and warehousing costs
  • Timeline: Construction underway, completion expected by 2026
  • Support: Incentives and tax credits from Illinois; infrastructure aid from Normal

The supplier park will enhance Rivian’s operations by co-locating suppliers, ensuring a steady and efficient flow of parts for models like the R1S SUV, R1T truck, Amazon Electric Delivery Van, and Rivian Commercial Van. This setup will lower transportation expenses and improve production coordination. An innovative underground tunnel will connect the supplier park to the main plant, streamlining part transfers and reducing local traffic impact.

Construction of the 1.2 million square foot facility is already in progress, with completion targeted for 2026. Rivian is also expanding its main plant by 1.1 million square feet to prepare for R2 model production starting in 2026. The state of Illinois is supporting the project with incentives and tax credits, while the town of Normal is contributing through road upgrades and utility cost assistance.

Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe noted, “This will be a key enabler to increasing production in 2026.” Governor JB Pritzker added, “Rivian’s investment strengthens Illinois’ role in the clean energy economy.” Rivian builds all its vehicles in Normal, driving economic growth in Central Illinois while advancing its mission to promote zero-emission transportation.
