Rivian Automotive, LLC has issued a recall affecting 17,260 units of its 2025 R1S and R1T models due to a potential headlight low beam failure in cold weather conditions. The malfunction can result in the headlights failing to illuminate during vehicle startup, leading to non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, which governs lamps and reflective devices. This issue poses a significant safety risk by potentially reducing driver visibility and increasing the chance of a crash.

Details of the Recall:
The issue was identified when Rivian discovered that headlamps in certain vehicles failed to meet FMVSS 108 requirements. Specifically, in cold weather, the low beam headlights might not illuminate upon vehicle startup. Affected drivers will receive a warning message stating: “Low beam lights not working. Service low beams soon.” This problem stems from incorrectly configured parts supplied during the manufacturing period from April 29, 2024, to February 3, 2025.
The recall includes:
- R1S SUVs built between April 29, 2024, and February 3, 2025.
- R1T Pickup Trucks built between July 10, 2024, and February 3, 2025.
Remedy and Support:
Rivian will replace the headlight control modules at no cost to owners. The company assures that systems affected are covered under their new vehicle limited warranty. Owners who previously paid for related repairs will be reimbursed upon submission of proof of payment.
