Rivian has rolled out software update 2025.10, bringing significant improvements to the low-speed ride comfort of its R1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles. This update is particularly beneficial for drivers navigating bumpy city streets or uneven off-road trails, especially when the “soft” or “moderate” ride feel settings are selected. The enhancement is a result of Rivian’s vertically integrated hardware and software stack, designed and developed in-house, which allows for continuous refinement of the driving experience.
Key Highlights:
- Software update 2025.10 enhances suspension for better low-speed comfort.
- Applicable to Rivian R1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles.
- Improvement is due to in-house developed hardware and software.
- System uses hydraulic roll control instead of traditional anti-roll bars.
- Update includes smarter algorithms for detecting low-speed bumps.

Unlike many vehicles that rely on anti-roll bars—also known as sway bars—to reduce body roll during cornering, Rivian has developed a sophisticated hydraulic roll control system. This system uses hydraulically interconnected circuits at each corner of the vehicle to manage body roll, along with a pump that adjusts hydraulic pressure based on the selected drive mode or ride feel. This approach eliminates the need for traditional anti-roll bars, which can sometimes lead to a harsher ride over uneven surfaces.
A key feature of Rivian’s system is the “comfort valve” in each damper. When these valves are open, they allow the wheels to move more independently, absorbing bumps and rough terrain without transferring excessive motion to the vehicle’s body. This results in a smoother, more comfortable ride for passengers. However, to maintain stability during cornering, the system must quickly close these valves when the vehicle begins to turn, ensuring responsive handling.

The latest software update enhances this system by introducing smarter algorithms that better detect low-speed bumps and jolts. These algorithms analyze data from various sensors around the vehicle, allowing the comfort valves to remain open in a wider range of low-speed situations. As a result, drivers should experience a noticeably smoother ride over uneven surfaces at low speeds. At higher speeds, where roll stiffness is critical for stability, the system continues to close the valves as needed, ensuring the vehicle handles corners with confidence.
This update reflects Rivian’s commitment to delivering the best possible ride quality and responding to customer feedback. The company encourages drivers to enjoy the refinements brought by the 2025.10 update, which promises to make every journey—whether on city streets or rugged trails—more comfortable and enjoyable.
