Cristian Sosa is better known for his traditional metal fabrication work. This project marks his first venture into the realm of battery-powered motorcycles. The result is nothing short of spectacular, merging classic design elements with advanced electric technology. Sosa’s work maintains the Anthem’s unique height-adjustable seat, allowing a wide range of riders to enjoy a comfortable ride.

Sosa Metalworks, established in September 2012 by Cristian and his brother Roberto, focuses on custom metal fabrication. Sosa, who specializes in motorcycles, gained prominence as the lead metal fabricator at Count’s Kustoms for the Discovery Channel’s “Counting Cars” series.

The partnership between Sosa and Ryvid began at the One Motorcycle Show in 2023, where Sosa met Ryvid founder Dong Tran. “I had the opportunity to speak to Dong and he explained some of the features. What really stood out to me was the steel frame design,” Cristian recalled. “I’d been interested in building an electric bike and knew I could do something cool around the frame, so the Anthem was a perfect fit.”

Building the Sosa Anthem

Cristian approaches each project by envisioning how a classic machine would look in the future. The Ryvid Anthem, with its ultra-modern design, provided a perfect canvas. Instead of focusing on the motor and transmission, Sosa designed around the folded steel frame and removable battery pack. This project required sharper, straighter lines compared to his usual curved designs.

Aluminum was the material of choice for the Sosa Anthem due to its light weight and ease of shaping. Sosa used his fast-cut CNC table for precision cuts, and then shaped the parts by hand on power hammers. The entire build process, including design, took about three weeks.

Innovative Features Retained

One of the standout features of the Ryvid Anthem is its removable 4.3kWh battery with an integrated charger. Sosa ensured this feature, along with the height-adjustable seat, remained fully functional. The custom-built seat unit seamlessly integrates with the Anthem’s electronic system, allowing it to be raised and lowered with ease. The side panels can also be removed to access the battery’s latch system for remote charging.

Looking Ahead

Following the success of the Sosa Anthem, Ryvid launched a new model, the Outset, at the 2024 One Motorcycle Show. The Outset shares the same frame, battery, and motor as the Anthem but features a scrambler-style design with taller suspension, a dirt bike-style seat, and wider handlebars. Sosa is excited about future collaborations, hinting at new projects with the Outset model.
