Scania unveils upgrades to its battery-electric bus platform, introducing a new e-machine, expanded power options, a three-battery pack, and faster rear charging. These enhancements improve efficiency, flexibility, and performance while maintaining zero emissions. The updates cater to diverse operational needs and align with sustainability goals, marking a key step in Scania’s e-mobility advancements.
Key Highlights:
- Four power options (240 kW, 270 kW, 300 kW, 330 kW) offer tailored performance for various conditions.
- Two- or four-speed gearbox boosts energy efficiency, startability, and acceleration, even on hills.
- New 312 kWh battery pack extends range, while a 325 kW rear charging interface cuts downtime.

Scania’s latest e-machine integrates seamlessly into its battery-electric bus lineup, replacing the previous single-power setup with versatile choices. Operators can now select from 240 kW to 330 kW, ensuring buses meet specific route demands, from urban loops to hilly terrains. The addition of a two- or four-speed gearbox enhances energy use and delivers smoother starts, making it ideal for heavy-duty tasks.
Beyond power, Scania introduces a three-battery pack with 312 kWh, offering more range for longer operations. A second charging port at the rear, capable of 325 kW and 500 A, far surpasses the front’s 130 kW limit, slashing recharge times and boosting uptime. These upgrades reflect Scania’s focus on practical, operator-driven solutions.
The e-machine itself is a compact unit, blending motor, inverter, gearbox, and oil system. It converts battery-stored electricity into mechanical torque, with the inverter managing speed and power delivery. A dual-pump oil system keeps it cool and lubricated, ensuring reliability. Plus, it complies with new cybersecurity rules, future-proofing the tech.
“We know that bus operators face the push-pull effect of responding to emission regulations while striving to meet the specific demands of electric operations,” says Anna Ställberg, Head of Urban Solutions for People Transport Solutions at Scania Group. “The new e-machine, battery and charging options have been developed and are being introduced with our customers’ challenges in mind, and respond to both their and our sustainability goals.” This rollout underscores Scania’s commitment to greener, more efficient public transport.
