SK Signet Enhances EV Charger Offerings with NACS Compatibility

SK Signet, a leader in EV charging solutions, announces the inclusion of NACS connection capabilities in their future ultra-fast chargers, reinforcing their commitment to a seamless charging experience for all EV owners.

What’s Happening

South Korea-based SK Signet, an industry leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, revealed today its intention to incorporate North American Charging Standard (NACS) connection capabilities into its product lineup of ultra-fast chargers. The company has already commenced the development of chargers that are in accordance with NACS standards, and the release of such a product is projected for 2023.

Why It Matters

The inclusion of NACS compatibility is a significant move for SK Signet as it enhances accessibility for EV owners. This development comes at a time when American EV adoption is at an all-time high, and the market seeks to deliver a seamless charging experience to EV owners. SK Signet’s CEO, Jung Ho Shin, highlights the company’s dedication to offering flexible charging solutions that enable easy and quick recharging of EVs, irrespective of the vehicle model.

Key Points

SK Signet is globally recognized for its EV chargers, and particularly for its pioneering efforts in fast and ultra-fast charging, being the first company to attain a UL certification for a 350 kW ultra-fast charger in the U.S. This month, SK Signet established its inaugural U.S. manufacturing hub in Plano, Texas, designed to produce more than 10,000 ultra-fast chargers annually.

The company remains committed to providing a selection of widely accepted standards for EV charger connections, such as the Combined Charging System (CCS), CHAdeMO, and Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standards, in addition to the new NACS standard. The diverse charging solutions by SK Signet are compatible with over 40 EV models available in North America.

Bottom Line

SK Signet is committed to supporting the robust growth of the U.S. charging network, working closely with customers and other business partners to develop innovative solutions that cater to the diverse needs of U.S. EV owners. The inclusion of NACS connectors, along with the current CCS, CHAdeMO, and MCS options, allows SK Signet’s chargers to simultaneously charge EVs using NACS and CCS standards, thereby increasing the efficiency of charging stations. By the end of the year, SK Signet plans to initiate production of the V2 charger, capable of charging an EV up to 80% in less than 15 minutes.
