Sunnoo, an American clean energy company, has announced the deployment of its first utility-patented, grid-independent EV charging station. This innovative unit is fully self-contained and operates entirely on solar power. After six years of research and development, including over 20,000 hours of component testing, the system is now undergoing real-world validation at Sunnoo’s manufacturing facility in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The launch represents a significant step forward for sustainable transportation by providing a fast-deploying and permit-free charging solution.

Key Highlights

  • Sunnoo has launched its first grid-independent, solar-powered EV charging station.
  • The system requires no permits or electrical utility access, allowing it to be installed and operational in minutes.
  • It delivers a charging rate of over 8 kW, providing up to 42 miles of range per hour of charge.
  • The company is actively seeking strategic partners to scale commercialization for higher education, municipalities, and commercial fleets.
  • Sunnoo’s innovation was recently recognized on the entrepreneurship docuseries The Blox.

A New Era in EV Charging

The transition from concept to real-world application marks a pivotal moment for the company. “For the first time, our work is moving from concept and development into active, real-world use,” said Chris Langathianos, Sunnoo’s CEO. He noted that the system’s performance has met or exceeded all expectations. Following an initial data collection period of four to six weeks, the station will be moved to the Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University, where it will provide off-grid charging for electric vehicles and e-bikes.

Unmatched Performance and Flexibility

A key advantage of Sunnoo’s station is its rapid deployment capability. Unlike traditional EV infrastructure that can take 12-24 months for permitting and grid connection, this self-contained system can be operational in minutes. This industry-first feature significantly lowers the barriers to expanding EV charging infrastructure.

The station boasts robust technical specifications, including:

  • A 6.5kW bifacial solar array with a patented dual-axis tracking turret that captures 50–62% more energy than fixed arrays.
  • A configurable battery capacity ranging from 24–100 kWh.
  • A Level 2 charging output that delivers up to 28% more charging power than its closest competitor.
  • A durable design engineered for all-season deployment, with a base weight of over 9,000 lbs for versatile placement.

Strategic Vision for the Future

With field testing validating its high performance, Sunnoo is focused on commercialization. The company is seeking partners in sectors like higher education, municipalities, and commercial fleet operations to scale its technology. “Our mission from day one has been to eliminate the infrastructure hurdles that have slowed EV adoption,” stated Martin Gero, Sunnoo’s Founder and Chief Technology Officer. “We engineered a solution that delivers fast, sustainable charging with no permitting delays, no construction headaches, and no grid dependency.”

Sunnoo’s innovative approach was recently featured on The Blox, the world’s largest docuseries on entrepreneurship, where it was selected as a top startup from a pool of over 150,000 applicants. As an American manufacturer of grid-independent charging solutions, Sunnoo aims to simplify and accelerate the global transition to renewable transportation.
