Tula Technology, Inc., renowned for its propulsion efficiency advancements, is set to showcase its Dynamic Motor Drive® (DMD) at the SIA Powertrain 2024 International Congress in Lille, France, on June 19th and 20th. Conference attendees will have the unique opportunity to test drive a Tesla Model 3 retrofitted with Tula’s DMD software and an externally excited synchronous motor (EESM), demonstrating significant efficiency improvements in electric vehicles.
Key Highlights
- Event: SIA Powertrain 2024 International Congress, Lille, France
- Dates: June 19th and 20th
- Feature: Tesla Model 3 with DMD and EESM available for test drives
- Efficiency: DMD can reduce energy consumption by up to 3%
Innovative Technology in Action
Tula’s DMD is a software-only solution designed to enhance electric drive efficiency through an optimized pulsing strategy. This method improves vehicle efficiency without noticeable impacts on noise and vibration. By retrofitting a Tesla Model 3’s permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with a Tula-designed wound rotor, they created an EESM. Incorporating DMD control logic into the vehicle, Tula successfully reduced energy consumption and boosted overall system efficiency.
Proven Success in Efficiency
This marks the second instance of Tula deploying DMD to enhance electric vehicle efficiency. In 2022, Tula applied DMD to a Chevrolet Bolt with an unmodified PMSM drive unit, achieving significant energy consumption reductions while maintaining drive quality. This success underscores the value of DMD in various motor applications, proving it to be a versatile and effective solution for improving electric vehicle efficiency.
Strategic Advantages of DMD
As the automotive industry advances, manufacturers prioritize increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and minimizing reliance on rare earth elements. Tula’s combination of EESM and DMD meets these objectives by offering a scalable, adaptable, and sustainable solution. This innovation supports the broader transition to electrified propulsion systems, ensuring a more efficient and cost-effective future for electric vehicles.
