Volkswagen and CUPRA have announced that select models from their electric vehicle line-ups qualify for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG), offering a £1,500 discount at purchase. This initiative, combined with additional promotions, aims to make electric mobility more accessible for UK drivers, aligning with both brands’ commitments to sustainable transportation.

Volkswagen’s ID.3 Line-Up Offers Significant Savings
Volkswagen has confirmed that eight ID.3 variants are eligible for the ECG, making the all-electric hatchback more affordable. With the grant applied, the ID.3 Pure Essential starts at £29,360, down from £30,860. The qualifying models include:
- ID.3 Pure Essential and Pure Match (52 kWh, 170 PS)
- ID.3 Pro Essential, Pro, and Pro Match (59 kWh, 204 PS)
- ID.3 Pro S Essential, Pro S, and Pro S Match (79 kWh, 204 PS)
The discount is seamlessly applied at purchase, requiring no additional steps from customers. Volkswagen anticipates more ID. models will soon qualify, further expanding options for eco-conscious drivers. The brand’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its manufacturing, using materials like hemp-based imitation leather and supporting renewable energy expansion across Europe.

CUPRA’s Born Models and Summer Drive Event
CUPRA’s Born V1, V2, and V3 models, available with 59 kWh and 79 kWh batteries, also qualify for the £1,500 ECG discount. With the grant, the Born V1 starts at £34,190 (59 kWh) and £35,495 (79 kWh). Like Volkswagen, CUPRA applies the discount automatically, simplifying the purchase process.
Additionally, CUPRA’s summer drive event (August 15 to September 30) offers further incentives. Customers purchasing a CUPRA Born receive £1,000 off, a £99 Ohme home charger, and 30,000 free miles from OVO. The CUPRA Tavascan, an all-electric SUV coupe, comes with a £3,000 discount and the same charging benefits. Non-electric models like the Terramar, Formentor, Leon, Leon Estate, and Ateca are eligible for a £1,000 discount.
CUPRA’s sustainability efforts include using recycled materials for seat upholstery, aligning with the ECG’s strict environmental standards. Marcus Gossen, Managing Director of SEAT and CUPRA UK, stated, “The Electric Car Grant, combined with our innovative designs and offers, empowers more drivers to embrace electric mobility.”
