Volkswagen of America has announced that ID.4 and ID. Buzz owners will gain access to Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network starting November 18th, significantly expanding DC fast-charging options for the German automaker’s electric vehicle customers across North America. The integration requires a Volkswagen-approved NACS (North American Charging System) adapter, available for purchase through authorized dealers or online.
Highlights
- Network Expansion: VW EV owners gain access to 25,000 Tesla Supercharger DC fast-charging stations across North America, supplementing the existing 5,000+ Electrify America locations
- Adapter Availability: NACS-to-CCS adapters retail at $200 MSRP, with MY25 original owners eligible for $100 rebate through July 15, 2026
- Standard Equipment: All model year 2026 Volkswagen electric vehicles will include NACS adapters as standard equipment
- Tesla App Integration: ID.4 and ID. Buzz owners will use the Tesla mobile application to locate compatible charging stations and process payment transactions

Charging Infrastructure Integration
The partnership provides Volkswagen electric vehicle owners access to over 25,000 NACS Partner DC fast chargers on Tesla’s Supercharger network throughout the United States. This expansion complements Volkswagen’s existing relationship with Electrify America, which operates more than 5,000 fast chargers nationwide.
“This is great news for our EV owners,” said Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing and Strategy at Volkswagen of America. “They will now be able to access the more than 25,000 DC fast chargers on the Tesla Supercharger network across the United States, in addition to the more than 5,000 fast chargers on Electrify America’s grid.”
Technical Requirements and Compatibility
The Volkswagen-approved NACS DC adapter enables CCS-equipped ID.4 and ID. Buzz vehicles to connect with Tesla’s NACS charging infrastructure. Critical specifications include:
- DC Fast Charging Only: Adapters function exclusively with compatible DC fast chargers, not Level 1 or Level 2 AC equipment
- Software Update Required: Owners of select 2024 and 2025 model year vehicles should install recommended software updates for optimal charging performance and safety
- Tesla App Dependency: Access requires cellular connectivity, Tesla mobile app download, account registration, and acceptance of Tesla’s terms of service
Volkswagen emphasizes that the software update includes additional safeguards to prevent property damage, fire, or injury risks associated with adapter misuse.

Adapter Availability and Pricing
Current ID.4 and ID. Buzz owners can purchase NACS adapters through Volkswagen dealerships or online at parts.vw.com. Original owners of MY25 vehicles qualify for a $100 rebate, reducing the effective cost to $100. Rebate claims must be submitted within 90 days of purchase and no later than July 15, 2026.
Beginning with the 2026 model year, all Volkswagen electric vehicles will include NACS adapters as standard equipment, eliminating the separate purchase requirement for future customers.
Operational Considerations
Tesla Supercharger access operates through the Tesla mobile application, which provides station location information, real-time availability data, and payment processing. Volkswagen notes that charger location accuracy, availability, compatibility, and pricing remain under Tesla’s control. Charging costs and fees are billed directly by Tesla to the payment method configured in the user’s Tesla app account.
The automaker advises that actual charging times vary based on multiple factors including battery age, vehicle condition, and ambient temperature. Battery capacity and charging speed naturally decrease over time with regular use.
