The Volvo EX90, an all-electric seven-seat SUV, has been named the 2025 World Luxury Car by the World Car Awards. Announced ahead of the New York International Auto Show, the award highlights the EX90’s blend of advanced safety, luxurious comfort, and Scandinavian design. A jury of 96 journalists from 30 countries praised its silent 510-horsepower twin-motor performance, ergonomic interior, and innovative features during extensive test drives.
Key Highlights:
- World Luxury Car Title: The EX90 outperformed strong competitors, earning recognition for its appeal to luxury buyers globally.
- Advanced Safety Technology: Features integrated lidar, cameras, radars, and ultrasonic sensors for enhanced environmental awareness.
- Scandinavian Design: Emphasizes form-follows-function with aerodynamic efficiency and a confident, rounded front end.
- Luxurious Interior: Offers a quiet cabin with Nordico leather-free upholstery, natural light-mimicking LEDs, and back-lit wood decor.
- Spacious Configuration: Provides 324 liters of trunk space with all seats up, expanding to 697 liters with the third row folded.
The EX90’s design prioritizes efficiency and safety. Its aerodynamic shape, with flush glazing and a low-profile lidar integrated into the roofline, reduces drag while enhancing safety systems. The interior, among the quietest in its class, uses sustainable materials like Nordico, made from recycled and bio-attributed sources. The cabin’s LED lighting replicates natural sunlight, creating a serene ambiance, while the true seven-seat layout offers rare cargo versatility.
Volvo Cars’ CEO, Hakan Samuelsson, expressed pride in the EX90’s recognition, noting its ability to meet the demands of discerning customers. This marks Volvo’s third World Car Award, following the 2018 World Car of the Year for the XC60 and the 2024 World Urban Car for the EX30. In 2024, Volvo reported record-breaking sales of 763,389 vehicles and revenue of SEK 400.2 billion, reinforcing its position as a leading global carmaker committed to sustainability and electrification by 2040.
