Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will roll out a comprehensive software update for the ID. Buzz from Summer 2026, headlined by a new vehicle-to-load (V2L) function that supplies up to 2.0 kW of continuous power to external devices. The update also introduces Connected Travel Assist with traffic light recognition, one-pedal driving, and the Innovision infotainment system with an integrated app store.
Highlights
- Vehicle-to-load function delivers 2.0 kW of continuous power through the Mode 3 charging socket via an adapter
- Connected Travel Assist now reacts to red traffic lights and brakes the vehicle to a standstill
- One-pedal driving allows full deceleration through accelerator regulation alone
- New Innovision infotainment system adds an integrated app store and is paired with a redesigned multifunction steering wheel
Vehicle-to-load adds mobile power capability
The new V2L function lets the ID. Buzz power external electrical devices directly from its high-voltage battery. Volkswagen says the system delivers a continuous 2.0 kW through the Mode 3 connection of the charging socket using an adapter. The company cites use cases such as charging e-bikes or running an electric grill on a weekend trip.
The 2.0 kW output sits below the 3.6 kW rating Volkswagen recently rolled out across the ID.3 Neo, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7 on the same software generation. The ID. Buzz V2L works only through an adapter on the external charging port, not via an in-cabin domestic socket.
Connected Travel Assist adds traffic light recognition
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has renamed Travel Assist to Connected Travel Assist, reflecting the system’s increased reliance on online data. The optional driver assistance suite now reacts to traffic lights — if the system detects a red light, it automatically brakes the ID. Buzz to a standstill. Volkswagen notes the function operates within system limits, and the driver remains responsible.
The update also adds one-pedal driving, which allows the vehicle to recuperate to a complete standstill through accelerator regulation alone. Both functions arrive on the ID. Buzz for the first time on this software generation.
Innovision infotainment and physical steering wheel buttons
The ID. Buzz adopts the new Innovision infotainment system, which integrates an app store for downloading audio, video streaming, parking, charging, and gaming applications. Volkswagen describes the activation model as similar to a smartphone, with services configurable on a vehicle-specific basis.
Operation is supported by a multifunction steering wheel with newly designed buttons, replacing the previous touch-sensitive controls that had drawn customer criticism. The updated ID. Buzz is currently confirmed for European and UK markets, with new functions arriving from Summer 2026.
