This initiative is part of a broader collaboration with top Japanese energy firms, forming the EV Wireless Power Transfer Council, aimed at fostering the adoption of wireless electric vehicle (EV) charging technologies across Japan.

Key Highlights:

  • Formation of EV Wireless Power Transfer Council: WiTricity joins hands with Daihen Corporation, Kansai Electric Power, Mitsubishi Research Institute, and Sinanen Corporation.
  • Establishment of WiTricity Japan KK: To support growing operations and projects in Japan.
  • Advancement of Wireless EV Charging: Enhanced by unique Japanese market conditions favoring space-efficient solutions.

Industry Collaboration to Boost Wireless EV Charging

The newly established EV Wireless Power Transfer Council includes notable industry players like Daihen Corporation and Kansai Electric Power. “The formation of the EV Wireless Power Transfer Council is a key step in the development of the wireless charging industry in Japan,” said Alex Gruzen, CEO of WiTricity. The Council aims to advance wireless charging and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, demonstrating new business models and speeding up deployment across the nation.

WiTricity’s Commitment to the Japanese Market

With the formation of WiTricity Japan KK, WiTricity is expanding its physical presence in Japan. This move is strategically positioned to address the unique needs of the Japanese automotive market, leveraging local insights to accelerate the adoption of wireless charging solutions. “In establishing WiTricity KK, we can help Japan leapfrog current technology and deliver the next-generation EV ownership experience,” noted Gruzen.

Accelerating EV Adoption in Japan

Japan is advancing its EV infrastructure rapidly, supported by government decarbonization initiatives and innovations from Japanese automotive manufacturers. The country’s urban density presents unique challenges that make traditional plug-in stations less feasible, whereas wireless solutions offer a compact, efficient alternative. Notably, automated parking systems and commercial fleet operations benefit significantly from wireless charging technologies, enhancing operational efficiency and contributing to a greener energy grid.

WiTricity continues to influence standards across the industry, ensuring interoperability of wireless charging systems, which is crucial for consumer and automotive manufacturer confidence. Furthermore, WiTricity’s FastTrack Integration Program promises rapid integration of wireless charging technologies into new and existing EV platforms, allowing automotive OEMs to expedite testing and adoption.
