General Motors has announced the return of the Chevrolet Bolt for the 2027 model year, building on the formula that established its predecessor as a popular electric vehicle. The revived model aims to deliver an affordable, technologically advanced American EV for a limited production run.
Key Highlights
- Starting MSRP of $29,990 for the launch LT model, with a $28,995 version to follow.
- GM-estimated range of 255 miles on a full charge.
- Peak charging speed of 150 kW+, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in 26 minutes.
- The first Chevrolet vehicle equipped with a native NACS charging port.
- Available Super Cruise driver assistance technology and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) capability.

Affordability and Market Position
Chevrolet is positioning the 2027 Bolt to deliver significant value, with the launch model LT having a starting MSRP of $29,990, including destination freight charges. An even more affordable LT trim will be available later in the model year with a starting MSRP of $28,995. The Bolt is set to offer the most range in an EV under $30,000 and will begin shipping to customers early next year.
The Bolt rejoins the Chevrolet Equinox EV, solidifying the brand’s presence in the affordable EV segment. Company officials expect the Bolt and Equinox EV to account for most of Chevrolet’s 2026 EV volume. Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet, noted that the original Bolt was the industry’s first affordable mass-market, long-range EV and cultivated a loyal customer base due to its price, versatility, and practicality. The decision to reintroduce the Bolt was driven by customer feedback and affection for the vehicle.
Performance and Efficiency
The 2027 Bolt is powered by the X76 electric drive unit, designed in-house at GM to maximize range and efficiency. This permanent-magnet motor uses minimal rare-earth materials, and its design helps reduce heat build-up and energy loss. As the 10th GM EV model to use this drive unit, the Bolt benefits from shared component costs, which are passed on to the customer.
The vehicle also features a blended regenerative braking system that returns braking energy to the battery, whether or not the driver uses the One-Pedal Driving mode. This system has been optimized for a consistent pedal feel during both regenerative and friction braking, an improvement over the previous generation.

Advanced Technology and Interior
The Bolt’s integrated infotainment system features Google built-in, providing access to navigation, entertainment apps, and voice assistance. Google Maps is embedded with vehicle systems to automatically plan routes that include charging information, real-time station status, and battery preconditioning for optimal charging performance. The system also syncs with the available Super Cruise driver assistance technology.
The redesigned, driver-centric interior includes a large 11.3-inch-diagonal infotainment screen and an 11-inch-diagonal driver information center. A new column shifter creates more space between the front seats, and an open console provides convenient storage. The dashboard features a mix of physical and virtual controls for frequently used features. Other available amenities include a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, multiple USB-C ports, and wireless phone charging. The vehicle also comes with more than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features.
Charging and Capability
As Chevrolet’s first vehicle with a native NACS charging port, the 2027 Bolt offers expanded access to the public charging network. It supports DC public fast charging up to 150 kW, charging more than 2.5 times faster than the previous model. With DC fast charging, drivers can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes.
The Bolt is also Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) bidirectionally capable, allowing it to power a properly equipped home during an outage when paired with a GM Energy Home System.

Design and Availability
The 2027 Bolt features fresh exterior styling with seven available paint colors and three 17-inch wheel finishes. For the first time, a sporty RS trim is available, featuring unique grille badging, high-gloss black wheels, and roof rails. The RS trim is also offered in an exclusive Atomic Yellow exterior with red interior accent stitching.
The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will be assembled with domestically and globally sourced parts at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas. It is scheduled to be available at Chevrolet dealers in the first quarter of 2026.
