Clean-tech innovator Allye Energy has announced Collins Earthworks as the inaugural customer for its newly launched MegaMAX battery energy storage systems (BESS). This partnership marks a significant step in electrifying the construction industry, with the first deployment featuring a MAX1000 unit (1MWh capacity) equipped with 240kW integrated DC fast charging capabilities, specifically configured for the rigorous demands of construction sites.
Key Highlights:
- Collins Earthworks is the first to adopt Allye Energy’s MegaMAX BESS range, co-creating a mobile solution for the construction industry.
- The initial deployment includes a MAX1000 unit with 1MWh capacity and 240kW integrated DC fast charging. The MegaMAX range offers DC fast charging from 240kW to 640kW.
- The “drop and go” design allows for ultra-fast deployment in under two minutes using standard hook loader trucks.
- The system is 20% lighter per kWh than comparable solutions, enhancing mobility for off-grid or grid-constrained sites.
- Advanced AI forecasting and load management technology optimizes energy use and predicts charging demands.
- The MegaMAX range is estimated to save operators like Collins up to £2,500 per week in diesel costs, plus additional savings from reduced maintenance and no need for costly grid connection upgrades.

This collaboration signifies a crucial move towards sustainable construction practices, as Collins Earthworks transitions its fleet of trucks and earthmoving equipment to electric power. The Allye Energy partnership directly addresses the challenge of providing high-power charging at diverse locations such as depots, quarries, and remote construction sites.
David Collins, Managing Director at Collins Earthworks, stated, “The MAX1000 delivers exactly what we need – reliable, high-power charging capability that can be deployed at our various work sites without extensive infrastructure upgrades.” He emphasized that this technology allows them to maintain productivity while significantly reducing their environmental impact.
A standout feature of the MegaMAX range is its “drop and go” deployment system. Utilizing a custom Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) structure, these systems can be transported and made operational in under two minutes by standard hook loader trucks, eliminating the need for specialized lifting equipment. This ensures businesses can rapidly implement the MAX as a mobile power source for temporary or permanent EV charging infrastructure.

The MegaMAX systems are engineered for lightning-fast EV charging for industrial applications, with integrated CCS DC fast charging capabilities specifiable from 240kW up to 640kW. This power is designed for heavy-duty equipment. The initial MAX1000 for Collins Earthworks features 240kW DC fast charging and extra-long cables for practical use with large industrial vehicles. This system can recharge Collins Earthworks’ fleet of four Volvo FMX electric trucks from 20-80% in just over an hour. Higher capacity configurations could reduce this time to 25 minutes. A typical electric crawler excavator with a 260kWh battery can be fully recharged in under 25 minutes by the MegaMAX range. The larger MAX1500 (1.5MWh capacity) could fully recharge five large electric crawler excavators off-grid in a single day.
Alistair McNeil, COO at Allye Energy, highlighted the collaborative innovation, noting, “Their industry expertise has been invaluable in refining the MegaMAX range to meet real-world construction needs.” The systems incorporate proprietary AI forecasting technology, functioning as an “energy bank” that optimizes charging schedules and draws power during off-peak hours by analyzing usage patterns, weather, and operational schedules. This predictive capability ensures maximum efficiency and minimizes operational costs.
The MegaMAX’s engineering includes a control system integrating three Allye MAX structures for enhanced performance and redundancy, and a fully liquid-cooled system for inverters and battery packs to improve efficiency and lifetime, especially in cold weather.
The MegaMAX range is now available to order.
