Audi has advanced its electric vehicle infrastructure by launching its second charging hub in Tokyo’s Shibakōen district on April 24, 2025. This development expands the company’s global fast-charging network, now totaling eight hubs, and reinforces its dedication to sustainable urban mobility in one of the world’s largest metropolitan areas.
Key Highlights
- Second Tokyo charging hub opens in the vibrant Shibakōen neighborhood.
- Equipped with a 150 kW hypercharger that charges two vehicles at once.
- Features an innovative swivel arm for hassle-free cable handling.
- Includes a 50-square-meter lounge for customer comfort during charging.
- Powered by renewable energy with buffer storage to ease grid demand.

Innovative Design and Convenience
Located amid cultural landmarks like Tokyo Tower and Zojoji Temple, the Shibakōen hub blends seamlessly into its surroundings. The facility mirrors the successful Nuremberg model, featuring a PowerX hypercharger that delivers 150 kilowatts of power. This capability ensures rapid charging for two electric vehicles simultaneously, catering to the needs of busy city drivers.
A standout feature is the patented swivel arm, which keeps the charging cable clean and accessible, simplifying the process for users. Upstairs, a comfortable lounge awaits, accessible via a smartphone code sent when charging begins, offering a premium experience for all electric vehicle owners, regardless of brand.
Sustainability at Its Core
The hub prioritizes environmental responsibility by using renewable energy sources exclusively. Its buffer storage system reduces strain on Tokyo’s power grid, eliminating the need for costly high-voltage lines or transformers. This efficient design underscores Audi’s commitment to eco-friendly solutions.
Building on Success
Following the first Tokyo hub’s impressive record of over 2,500 charging sessions since April 2024, the Shibakōen opening signals Audi’s intent to further expand in Japan and beyond. Plans are underway for additional hubs in Tokyo and a second in Munich by early fall 2025. Through these efforts, Audi continues to champion accessible, sustainable electric mobility worldwide.
