Autonomy has added Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicles to its month-to-month subscription fleet, with the model available immediately to subscribers in California. The Santa Monica, California-based company made the ID.4 available to subscribe through the Autonomy app this week. It says more Volkswagen models are expected to follow in additional markets.
Why Is Autonomy Adding Volkswagen?
The company describes the ID.4 as the first phase of a broader Volkswagen rollout, driven by customer requests for more vehicle choice.
“Consumers increasingly want an easier, more transparent way of getting a vehicle,” said Fred Weick, Chief Executive Officer, Autonomy. “With Autonomy, they not only get that, but they also get flexibility in how they address their mobility needs. Subscriptions give customers another option, providing a hassle-free and friendly way to get a car. It is a less complicated and hence faster solution than traditional car buying or leasing.”
Autonomy’s Current Subscription Lineup
The ID.4 joins the electric models already in Autonomy’s subscription fleet. The company recently added gas-powered vehicles as well:
- Electric vehicles: Tesla Model 3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, BMW i4, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Chevrolet Equinox EV, and now the Volkswagen ID.4
- Gas-powered vehicles: Ford Mustang, Ranger, F-150, Bronco Sport, Escape, and Explorer
How Does an Autonomy Car Subscription Work?
Autonomy targets customers who do not want a multi-year commitment or the conventional lease and finance underwriting process. According to the company, the subscription is structured as follows:
- Payment: Subscribers pay one start fee, followed by monthly payments on a credit card.
- Credit: There is no loan application, no debt is added to the customer’s credit file, and posted plan prices do not vary by credit score, the company says.
- Signup: Enrollment is fully digital through the Autonomy app, and the company says it takes a few minutes.
- Paperwork: Autonomy handles title, registration, and licensing for the subscriber.
The company has not disclosed ID.4 subscription pricing, which additional Volkswagen models will follow, or which markets are next.
