Blue Bird Corporation has achieved a significant milestone by delivering its 2,000th electric school bus to Clark County School District (CCSD) in Nevada. This delivery supports CCSD’s transition to zero-emission student transportation and highlights Blue Bird’s leadership in clean energy solutions for school buses.

Key Highlights:

  • Milestone Achievement: Blue Bird delivered its 2,000th electric, zero-emission school bus to Clark County School District (CCSD), the nation’s fifth-largest school district.
  • Support for Clean Transportation: CCSD, serving over 300,000 students, received the bus as part of their efforts to transition to zero-emission student transportation.
  • Advanced Technology: The delivered bus features Blue Bird’s new extended range battery, capable of carrying 84 students and taking between three and eight hours to recharge fully, depending on the charging infrastructure.
  • EPA Grant: CCSD was awarded a $9.875 million grant through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus Program, under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), which funds clean school bus transportation.
  • Environmental Impact: The shift to electric school buses by CCSD and other districts is expected to reduce harmful carbon emissions by over 21,000 metric tons annually and protect students from diesel tailpipe emissions.
  • Production Expansion: Blue Bird continues to expand its electric school bus production, with plans to increase capacity to over 5,000 electric school buses annually.

Clark County School District (CCSD) in Nevada received this milestone vehicle, reinforcing its commitment to transitioning to zero-emission transportation for its students. The district, which operates 373 schools and serves more than 300,000 students, maintains a fleet of over 1,900 vehicles, with more than 1,400 bus routes in operation daily.

The milestone vehicle delivered to CCSD is Blue Bird’s most advanced All-American electric school bus, equipped with a new, extended range battery. The bus, which can carry 84 students, takes between three and eight hours to fully recharge, depending on the available charging infrastructure.

CCSD’s purchase was supported by a $9.875 million grant from the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), which allocates $5 billion over five years to fund clean school bus transportation across the country.

“Today, we delivered our 2,000th electric, zero-emission school bus in North America. We are thrilled to celebrate this major industry milestone with Clark County School District. Blue Bird is recognized as the undisputed leader in the field of clean student transportation. Electric school buses mean cleaner air to breathe for students, drivers, and the community at large,” said Britton Smith, president at Blue Bird Corporation.

The impact of this milestone is significant, with more than 2,000 Blue Bird electric school buses now operating across 41 U.S. states and 4 Canadian provinces. This transition to zero-emission vehicles is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 21,000 metric tons annually and protect nearly 150,000 students daily from harmful diesel emissions.

Blue Bird’s electric school buses have already covered more than five million miles, equating to over 2,000 trips on the iconic Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. To meet growing demand, Blue Bird has significantly expanded its production capabilities, opening a new 40,000 square foot Electric Vehicle (EV) Build-up Center in Fort Valley, Georgia. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded Blue Bird an $80 million grant to convert a former diesel-powered motorhome manufacturing site into a 600,000 square foot electric vehicle manufacturing facility. This expansion will enable Blue Bird to produce over 5,000 electric school buses annually.

Clark County School District acquired the advanced electric vehicle through Blue Bird’s authorized dealer, Bryson Sales & Service Inc., based in Utah.
