The BMW Group is poised for a promising 2025, focusing on slight sales growth, robust financial performance, and the launch of the innovative NEUE KLASSE. With a strategic blend of technology openness and a diverse product lineup, the company aims to maintain profitability while reducing investments from 2024’s peak. The first NEUE KLASSE vehicle, the BMW iX3, will debut late 2025, spearheading over 40 new models by 2027.
Key Highlights
- Sales Growth: A slight increase in sales volume is planned, driven by new models like the BMW iX3.
- Financial Stability: Group earnings before taxes (EBT) are targeted to match 2024 levels, with higher free cash flow expected.
- Electrification Push: Battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales share will rise slightly, building on 2024’s 426,536 units.
- Investment Reduction: After a 2024 peak, investments in R&D and capital expenditure will decrease.
“What has always set the BMW Group apart is our ability to maintain our course, even in challenging conditions,” said Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. This approach balances short-term performance with long-term innovation, spotlighted by the NEUE KLASSE—a project Zipse calls “the biggest future-focused project in the history of our company.”
The company’s technology-open strategy remains a cornerstone, offering internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, BEVs, and, from 2028, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles. In 2024, BMW delivered nearly 600,000 electrified vehicles, with BEVs and plug-in hybrids accounting for nearly one in four sales. The upcoming BMW iX3, launching at the Debrecen plant, will introduce advanced technology clusters scalable across all drivetrains and segments. “We are taking a huge leap forward with our new technology clusters,” Zipse added, highlighting enhanced innovation and customer benefits.
Financially, BMW anticipates a strong free cash flow in 2025, bolstered by reduced spending after 2024’s €18 billion investment in R&D and infrastructure. “Never before in the history of BMW have we invested so extensively in our future,” noted Walter Mertl, Board of Management member for Finance. This strategic consistency supports a stable profit outlook despite tariff pressures.
The NEUE KLASSE rollout will redefine BMW’s lineup, with the iX3 paving the way for a sporty sedan in 2026 and more. Alongside this, BMW’s “Software-Defined Vehicle” initiative introduces a digital nervous system with zonal architecture and supercomputers, slashing wiring by 600 meters and boosting efficiency. By year-end, over 10 million vehicles will support over-the-air updates, ensuring cutting-edge features.
In electrification, BMW celebrates milestones in 2025: three million electrified vehicles on roads since the BMW i3 and 1.5 million BEVs delivered. With CO2 emissions dropping below 100 grams per kilometer (WLTP) in 2024, the company’s diverse drivetrain approach proves effective in combating climate change while meeting varied customer needs globally.
Looking ahead, BMW’s blend of innovation, financial discipline, and market adaptability positions it for growth in 2025. The NEUE KLASSE and beyond promise a dynamic future for this premium automaker.
