Canada’s New EV Charging Boost

XCharge North America has partnered with Hypercharge Networks Corp. to introduce its cutting-edge GridLink chargers to Canada, targeting British Columbia and Ontario. This collaboration seeks to bolster electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and improve energy management across these regions. The GridLink chargers stand out due to their bidirectional, battery-integrated design, which supports fast charging while enhancing grid stability and integrating renewable energy sources, marking a significant step forward for Canada’s sustainable transportation landscape.

Key Highlights

  • Innovative Design: GridLink chargers offer bidirectional charging, enabling power to flow back to the grid or function as an off-grid energy source.
  • Sustainable Integration: They facilitate direct connection with photovoltaics, advancing the use of renewable energy.
  • Regional Deployment: Hypercharge will distribute the chargers to automotive dealerships and other clients in British Columbia and Ontario.
  • Service Roles: Hypercharge manages software and customer support, while XCharge NA handles hardware maintenance.

The GridLink chargers, developed by XCharge North America, are engineered to meet the rising demand for efficient EV charging solutions. With a base capacity of 215 kilowatt-hours, expandable to 430 kilowatt-hours, they provide adaptable performance for various settings. This flexibility, combined with bidirectional technology, allows the chargers to support grid resilience by redistributing power as needed, a critical feature as Canada’s EV adoption grows.

Hypercharge, a leader in smart EV charging, will oversee distribution and provide ongoing software and 24/7 customer support, ensuring operational reliability. XCharge NA will maintain the hardware, with Hypercharge staff trained for corrective maintenance. This partnership enhances charging accessibility and supports Canada’s energy infrastructure. As Chris Koch, Hypercharge’s Head of Growth & Partnerships, noted, it eliminates demand charges and costly grid upgrades for businesses. Meanwhile, Aatish Patel, XCharge NA’s cofounder and president, highlighted its potential to strengthen grid stability, especially in rural areas, while meeting EV demand. Together, they’re driving Canada toward a greener energy future.
