Caterham is scheduled to unveil the first functional prototype of Project V at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The reveal will take place on January 9, 2026. This prototype will be displayed alongside exhibits from development partners Yamaha Motor and XING Mobility. The vehicle is currently being utilized for testing as the brand moves toward full-scale production.
Highlights
- Functional prototype debuts at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026.
- Testing program involves Yamaha Motor and XING Mobility.
- Battery system features advanced immersion cooling technology.
- Show car makes US debut at CES Las Vegas.

Prototype Testing and Evaluation
The development vehicle was assembled at the TOKYO R&D facility in Japan. It is now undertaking initial powertrain evaluation. This phase specifically assesses the Yamaha Motor e-axle. Engineers are simultaneously conducting chassis durability work.
The ongoing testing program is essential for validating the vehicle’s performance. Caterham continues to collaborate closely with its appointed technical partners. These include Yamaha Motor, XING Mobility, and TOKYO R&D.
Advanced Battery Technology
The prototype facilitates further testing of the CTP battery system. This system features cells immersed in a dielectric liquid. This method provides optimum cooling through rapid and uniform heat dissipation.
This engineering approach offers unmatched thermal stability. It supports exceptional energy density and safety. These attributes are critical for delivering sustained high performance.

US Market Debut and Executive Outlook
The original Project V EV sports coupe concept will debut in the United States at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The vehicle will be shown in Las Vegas on January 6, 2026. This presentation is in partnership with XING Mobility.
Kazuho Takahashi, CEO of Caterham Cars, noted the significance of the Tokyo debut. He stated that this step enables a comprehensive vehicle testing program.
“Our objective remains unchanged,” said Takahashi. “To realize our vision of a pure electric sports car that embodies the unmistakable DNA of a Caterham.”
