CATL has unveiled the Choco-Swap ecosystem at a conference in Xiamen, introducing two standardized battery models, #20 and #25. Collaborating with nearly 100 partners, this initiative aims to revolutionize electric vehicle (EV) battery swapping by promoting standardization and enhancing the user experience.

Key Highlights:

  • Launch of standardized batteries: CATL introduced the #20 and #25 Choco-Swap batteries, designed to support A0-class and A/B-class vehicles.
  • Wide compatibility: The Choco-Swap ecosystem accommodates vehicles with wheelbases ranging from 2.55 to 3.1 meters.
  • Expanding infrastructure: Plans include constructing 30,000 battery swap stations by 2030, with 1,000 stations operational by 2025.
  • Collaborative ecosystem: Nearly 100 partners, including automakers, financial institutions, and e-commerce platforms, are involved.
  • Cost-effective solutions: Rental plans for swappable batteries start at 369 yuan per month.

CATL’s Choco-Swap ecosystem represents a milestone in EV battery standardization. The #20 and #25 battery models offer lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and NMC versions, with capacities tailored to diverse user needs. The #20 LFP battery provides a 42 kWh capacity with a 400 km range, while the #25 NMC version offers a 70 kWh capacity with a 600 km range. These batteries aim to reduce vehicle development costs and shorten timelines by over six months.

“We will continue to promote the standardization of battery swapping, with the key being the standardization of battery dimensions,” said Robin Zeng, founder and CEO of CATL. Future innovations in CATL’s battery technology will be integrated into Choco-Swap models, ensuring consistent advancements.

The ecosystem’s infrastructure plans involve stations equipped with 14-30 battery compartments, supporting a 99.99% success rate for 100-second swap operations. These stations also integrate energy storage and grid interaction capabilities, contributing to green energy utilization and grid stability.

By collaborating with partners like Changan, GAC, and FAW, CATL has facilitated cross-brand and cross-industry compatibility. Users can access services like battery leasing, insurance, and resale through platforms such as JD.com and UXIN. Insurance premiums have been reduced significantly, and financial institutions are shifting from financing entire vehicles to vehicles without batteries, lowering purchase costs.

“We hope to bring together more forces through the Choco-Swap ecosystem to jointly promote the prosperous development of the battery swapping industry,” added Robin Zeng.

With subscription agreements signed for over 107,500 battery packs, CATL’s Choco-Swap ecosystem is poised to redefine EV battery usage, enabling a sustainable and user-friendly energy future.
