Octopus Energy US has launched Octopus Charge, a public charging app that gives electric vehicle drivers one-tap access to tens of thousands of charging stations across North America. The app pulls charger discovery and charging sessions into a single place, which the company says removes the need for drivers to move between multiple apps and accounts to power up on the road. Octopus Charge carries over the approach Octopus Energy US parent Octopus Energy Group built with Electroverse, its public charging platform in the UK and Europe.

Why Does Public EV Charging Need One App?
Public charging in North America remains fragmented across operators, each with its own app, account, and payment flow. Octopus Energy US frames that fragmentation, alongside concerns about charger availability, as a friction point that makes public charging harder than it needs to be for drivers moving off their home charger.
The app addresses that by combining charger discovery and session initiation in one interface rather than requiring drivers to switch between network-specific apps.
“Driving electric should be simple, wherever the journey leads,” said Nick Chaset, CEO of Octopus Energy US. “Drivers shouldn’t have to juggle multiple apps and accounts just to charge their cars. By bringing public charging into one seamless experience, Octopus Charge gives drivers the confidence to hit the road, making charging one less thing they have to think about while helping remove another barrier to EV adoption.”
Built on the Electroverse Platform
Octopus Charge is derived from Electroverse, the charging platform Octopus Energy Group operates in the UK and Europe. Since its 2020 launch, Electroverse has grown into what the company reports is Europe’s largest EV charging platform, giving drivers access to more than one million public charge points across more than 40 countries through a single app and account.
The North American product applies the same single-account structure to US and Canadian networks, extending the model Octopus Energy US has used for home energy and charging to drivers away from home.

What the Launch Signals
The rollout extends Octopus Energy US beyond residential energy service and into the public charging layer, a segment where network fragmentation has been a persistent complaint among North American EV drivers. Whether the app closes that gap depends on how much of the installed charging base it can bring under one account — a question the company’s European platform took several years to answer at scale.
