ChargePoint has unveiled its new ChargePoint Essential Cloud Plan, designed to make electric vehicle (EV) charging more accessible for small businesses and multifamily housing. This innovative plan provides an affordable way to implement EV charging services without traditional subscription fees.
Key highlights include:
- The Essential Cloud Plan is available with ChargePoint’s CPF50 Level 2 charging solution.
- Charging costs are covered by driver payments, eliminating ongoing subscription fees.
- Revenue beyond software costs is remitted to station owners, offering potential profit.
The ChargePoint Essential Cloud Plan offers a competitively priced software fee, which is covered by payments made by drivers when they use the charging stations. Any revenue generated beyond this fee is remitted to the station owner monthly. Additionally, station activation is included at no extra cost.
Ideal for small businesses, hotels, multifamily housing, and workplaces, the Essential Cloud Plan allows for EV charging without the need for a software subscription. This makes it particularly beneficial in environments where chargers are available on a restricted basis, such as for residents or employees. The plan also effectively finances the cost of the charging solution, with surplus revenue after covering monthly costs paid to the station owner.
“ChargePoint wants small businesses to offer EV charging as seamlessly and easily as possible,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “Innovative new offerings like ChargePoint’s Essential cloud plan lower the barrier to entry by shouldering ongoing costs and deploying the $699 CPF50 charger to minimize upfront investment. The plan is an excellent way to offer charging without sacrificing quality or the ability to scale.”
This plan is particularly advantageous for multifamily housing complexes, such as condominiums and apartment buildings, which have faced challenges in offering charging solutions for residents. With direct payment options for energy usage, shared charging capabilities, and consolidated billing, management is relieved of the administrative burden. Furthermore, power sharing capabilities enable incremental station additions without overloading the electrical service, keeping installation costs manageable and minimizing initial investments.
The CPF50 charging unit is available in single or dual-port configurations, adding flexibility for site hosts. With power sharing capabilities, businesses can scale their charging offerings over time, ensuring future expansion without heavy electrical infrastructure costs.
