Chery used the opening of Auto China 2026 on April 24 to debut the Tiggo V, a transformable family SUV offered in plug-in hybrid and internal combustion forms. The model is the production version of the T1TP concept shown at the 2025 Chery International User Summit. It introduces a configurable layout that switches between SUV, MPV, and pickup modes on a single unibody platform.
Highlights
- PHEV variant uses Chery’s sixth-generation Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system and posts quoted fuel consumption of 6.0 L/100 km
- Three-mode layout switches between SUV, MPV, and pickup configurations on a unibody platform
- 2,800 mm wheelbase enables a three-row, seven-seat MPV configuration with 42 storage compartments
- First model launched under Chery’s “2030 Ten-Million Family Letters Plan”
Three Modes on One Platform
The Tiggo V offers three distinct configurations from a single vehicle. SUV mode delivers 220 mm of ground clearance, with wading depth of 700 mm on the PHEV and 650 mm on the ICE. The chassis can also tackle gradients of up to 30%, according to Chery.
MPV mode uses the 2,800 mm wheelbase for a three-row, seven-seat layout. Chery says the cabin includes 42 storage spaces and an N95-rated air filtration system. Interior height measures 1,297 mm, which the company says aids entry and movement inside.
Pickup mode uses a quick-detach rear barrier to expand the load area. Chery notes that factory accessory kits adapt the vehicle to outdoor or cargo use without aftermarket modification.
Powertrain and Efficiency
Both versions ride on a high-clearance chassis. The PHEV uses Chery’s sixth-generation Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system and posts quoted fuel consumption of 6.0 L/100 km. The ICE version records 7.84 L/100 km. The same CSH family of hybrid powertrains underpins other Chery group models reaching export markets, including the recently launched Tiggo 4 CSH in the United Kingdom.
Full powertrain details, including motor outputs, battery capacity, and electric-only range for the PHEV, have not yet been disclosed.
Safety and Driver Assistance
The body structure uses 76% high-strength steel and aluminum, with reinforced protection in critical areas. Standard ADAS equipment includes Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Automatic Parking Assist (APA), and Remote Parking Assist (RPA).
Strategic Position
Jeff Zhang, CEO of the Chery brand, said all innovations of the brand are “rooted in the original aspiration of For Family.” He described the Tiggo V as “the concrete realization of this promise” and said the model name’s “V” represents three values: Versatility, Value, and Victory.
The Tiggo V is the first all-round family-oriented model launched after Chery’s “2030 Ten-Million Family Letters Plan.” The debut at Auto China 2026 in Beijing places the model in front of an audience of global automakers using the show to outline electrification strategies for the Chinese and export markets.
