What’s Happening
Daimler Truck, one of the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, is launching a line of electric trucks under a fresh brand, RIZON. The new RIZON brand, including its range of vehicle offerings, will be unveiled to the public at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Anaheim, California, taking place from May 1-4, 2023.
Why It Matters
This release marks a significant shift in the commercial transport industry, as Daimler Truck underlines its commitment to zero-emission transportation. The RIZON brand targets fleet owners and truck drivers seeking to reduce their environmental footprint. Daimler Truck’s experienced dealership network will support the transition by offering a range of services, including consulting on AC and DC charging and telematics access. Daimler Truck Financial Services will also facilitate flexible financing options.
Key Points
RIZON’s initial offerings include three model variants: the e18L, e16L, and the e16M. These medium-duty, battery-electric vehicles are designed to cater to a variety of applications, including dry vans, flatbeds, landscape dumps, and reefers. The trucks, varying in gross vehicle weight from 15,995 to 17,995 lbs, can run from 75 to 160 miles on a single charge, depending on the model and battery pack configuration.
RIZON trucks incorporate advanced safety systems to protect drivers, passengers, and communities. These include Daimler Truck’s Active Brake Assist and Active Side Guard Assist. Furthermore, the vehicles support Level 2 AC Charging (J1772) and DC Fast Charging CCS1 compliant systems.
The RIZON brand offers a class-leading warranty package that covers the powertrain, chassis and cab, for 5 years/75,000 miles, and the high voltage batteries for 5 years/120,000 miles.
Starting in Q4 2023, RIZON trucks will be distributed in the United States via an exclusive agreement with Velocity, a well-established name in the commercial vehicle industry. They will primarily target businesses involved in urban retail logistics, last-mile deliveries, and municipal work.
Bottom Line
RIZON’s launch comes at a time of rapid change in the mobility industry, where zero-emission commercial transportation is gaining momentum due to legislative measures and customer initiatives. Incentives and tax credits are easing the cost of fleet transition in several markets. With its partnership with Velocity and the growing interest in sustainable transportation, Daimler Truck foresees promising growth potential for the RIZON brand in the medium-duty electric truck market.
