DENZA has confirmed UK pricing for the BAO 5, with the entry Elegance trim listed at £69,500 ($93,600) and the range-topping Ultimate at £78,880 ($106,300). The plug-in hybrid is the first SUV from BYD Group’s premium technology-focused brand, and UK customers can order the BAO 5 in either trim now. Both share a DMO plug-in hybrid powertrain the company rates at 537 hp (544PS), with first customer deliveries due in early 2027.

Elegance Specification and Cabin Technology
The range opens with the Elegance at £69,500 MRRP — the UK’s manufacturer’s recommended retail price. Its dashboard centers on a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in, flanked by separate displays for the driver and front passenger.
Standard equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, front seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, an 18-speaker Devialet audio system and 50W wireless smartphone charging. An in-car food storage unit cools items between 21°F and 43°F (-6°C to 6°C) and heats them from 95°F to 122°F (35°C to 50°C). Three interior colors are offered: Eclipse Blue, Shoal Green and Tarim Desert Beige.
Outside, the Elegance rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with fixed side steps and integrated roof rails. Seven exterior colors are available. Snowy White is free of charge; Shadow Black, Pinnacle Grey, Wagner Glacier Blue, Dolomite Green and Tarim Polar Gold each add £2,000 ($2,700), while the matte Mineral Purple finish costs £3,500 ($4,700).
What Does the Ultimate Trim Add?
The Ultimate carries the same core specification and adds 20-inch alloy wheels, electrically deploying side steps, Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated rear seats and a second wireless charging tray.
Its defining addition is DiSus-P suspension, which brings air springs with continuous damping and ride-height adjustment. The system allows up to 5.5 inches (140mm) of variation in body level — 3.5 inches (90mm) up and 2.0 inches (50mm) down — to clear difficult terrain. A self-leveling parking function levels the vehicle on uneven ground.
How Does the DMO Powertrain Work?
The DMO Dual Mode Off-road plug-in hybrid system is built around one electric motor per axle. The front unit produces 268 hp (272PS) and the rear 383 hp (388PS), for a combined 537 hp (544PS) and 561 lb-ft (760Nm) of torque. A 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mounted longitudinally under the hood works primarily as a generator for the battery, though it can drive the wheels directly under high load.
Off-road hardware includes electronic differential locks front and rear, an energy center lock that DENZA says redistributes torque between axles 30 times faster than a conventional mechanical setup, and 16 driving modes. On pavement, the company reports 0–62 mph in 4.8 seconds for the Elegance and 5.0 seconds for the Ultimate.
Battery, Range and Charging
Electric energy is stored in a 31.8kWh Blade Battery integrated into the ladder-frame chassis, which DENZA says returns up to 56 miles of electric range and 519 miles combined. DC charging peaks at 100kW, taking the pack from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes. These are UK-market figures; European test-cycle ratings are not directly comparable with EPA numbers.
