Finnish technology company Donut Lab has enlisted VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to independently verify the performance of its all-solid-state battery. The company plans to release measurement reports in a series, with the first video dropping on Monday, February 23rd at 2 pm CET.
Highlights
- Independent verification: State-owned VTT Technical Research Centre conducted laboratory measurements on the Donut Battery’s capabilities.
- Public transparency: Full measurement reports and a video series will be published through Donut Lab channels and the I Donut Believe website.
- Solid-state advantages: The battery eliminates flammable liquids and thermal runaway risk, while enabling longer range and lighter vehicle structures.
- Mass-production ready: Donut Lab debuted the battery at CES in January, claiming it is immediately available for serial vehicle manufacturing.
VTT Research Centre Conducts Independent Measurements
Donut Lab submitted its battery to VTT for third-party evaluation. As a result, VTT performed multiple capability measurements in its own research laboratory. The Finnish state owns VTT, which ranks among Europe’s leading research organizations.
The move follows widespread industry discussion since the battery’s CES debut. According to Donut Lab, the testing aims to address speculation and provide verifiable technical data.
“Such an exceptional innovation has naturally also generated plenty of speculation and doubt — how is this even possible? It really is possible, and we want now to shine a light on the technical features of the battery by means of more detailed measurements,” said Donut Lab CEO Marko Lehtimäki.

Video Series to Detail Battery Performance
Donut Lab will publish results through a dedicated video series on its social media channels, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Additionally, the company intends to release the full measurement reports on its website.
“We are continuing this conversation with a series of videos starting next week, where we take a closer look at the features and performance of the battery,” said Donut Lab CTO Ville Piippo.
Solid-State Technology Advantages
Solid-state batteries differ from conventional lithium-ion cells in several key ways. Industry analysts have long predicted this technology as the next major advancement in electric mobility. According to Donut Lab, the battery offers:
- Longer driving range compared to traditional lithium-ion packs
- Lighter structural weight, enabling more flexible vehicle design
- No flammable liquids, eliminating a key safety concern
- Thermal runaway resistance under extreme conditions
However, independent confirmation of these claimed advantages remains pending until VTT’s full reports are published.
