Einride and PepsiCo have partnered to launch a digitally optimized electric truck fleet in Memphis, Tennessee, aimed at electrifying Frito-Lay’s food distribution routes in the region. This partnership represents PepsiCo’s commitment to reducing its Scope 3 emissions through sustainable freight solutions. The collaboration also marks the second market where Einride and PepsiCo have implemented electrified shipping, following a successful launch in the U.K. in 2023.
Key Highlights
- Partnership aims to reduce Scope 3 emissions through electrified shipping.
- Fleet of five electric vehicles transporting over 2,500 loads annually.
- 700 kW private charging station installed for seamless operations.
- Estimated annual emissions reduction of 143 metric tons of CO2e.
The deployment of a fleet of five electric trucks is designed to help PepsiCo, a key customer for Einride, achieve its decarbonization goals. The trucks, operated by drivers from Frito-Lay’s carrier partner Armstrong Transportation, are projected to transport over 2,500 loads each year, covering nearly 200,000 miles. This initiative will result in an annual savings of approximately 143 metric tons of CO2e emissions.
To support this transition, Einride has installed a 700 kW private charging station at Armstrong’s yard, facilitating rapid, cost-effective electrification without significant overhead investments. David Allen, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer for PepsiCo Foods North America, highlighted the importance of tailored approaches to emissions reduction: “PepsiCo’s decarbonization strategy is not one-size fits all. We’re continuously looking for new and innovative ways to reduce our Scope 3 emissions.”
Robert Falck, CEO and Founder of Einride, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “We are proud to deploy our technology in partnership with the PepsiCo team, given their ambition to cut emissions at scale with decarbonized freight. These operations will accelerate a cleaner, more efficient supply chain, while showcasing that going electric with freight operations is not just possible, but essential.”
Since 2020, Einride has been setting the standard for sustainable freight, helping partners reduce emissions by up to 95%. Its integrated ecosystem of connected electric trucks, charging infrastructure, and a digital freight platform optimizes operations and provides a cost-efficient pathway for transitioning to sustainable shipping solutions.
