Volvo Trucks’ heavy-duty electric lineup, with a driving range of up to 435 miles (700 km), has been named International Truck of the Year 2027, the company’s eighth win of the award. The winning range covers the Volvo FH, FM and FMX Electric and the FH Aero Electric, the new electric range that Volvo Trucks says delivers longer range, higher payload and shorter charging times than the models it replaces. Roger Alm, president of Volvo Trucks, accepted the award this week at IAA Transportation in Hanover, Germany.

What Did the Jury Recognize?
The jury cited the way Volvo has built its electric portfolio beyond a single vehicle or application. It highlighted how longer range, different cab and chassis configurations and different solutions can be tailored to a variety of transport assignments.
“The Volvo Trucks winning range represents a major evolution of their battery-electric heavy-duty offering. With the new electric range, the company demonstrates how quickly battery-electric heavy-duty transport is moving from individual applications towards a comprehensive transport solution,” said Florian Engel, chairman, International Truck of the Year.
Alm said demand for the new trucks has nearly filled the order book.
“I am very proud that we once again get recognized for our electric solutions. We see a great demand for our new electric trucks, and the order book is almost full. This award proves that Volvo Trucks is a trusted industry leader within electromobility. The new range makes it possible for even more operations to choose zero tailpipe emission transport,” Alm said.
Electric Trucks in Daily Operations
Since 2019, 7,000 electric Volvo trucks have covered about 311 million miles (500 million km) worldwide, the company reports. Nearly 2,000 customers in more than 50 countries now run electric Volvo trucks in daily operations.
Volvo Trucks offers eight electric truck models covering a range of transport assignments. The company says seven years of electrification have built its expertise in optimizing installed energy use, charging and service for electric trucks. The heavy-duty lineup now recognized by the jury includes the FH Aero Electric with extended range, which carries the 700 km figure.
Volvo Trucks notes that real-world range depends on external conditions such as weather and wind resistance, along with the truck’s total weight and driver performance.
How Is International Truck of the Year Decided?
The International Truck of the Year organization was launched in 1977 and comprises 24 commercial vehicle journalists from major trucking magazines across Europe. The annual award goes to the truck introduced in the market in the previous 12 months that has made the most significant contribution to road transport efficiency. Criteria include technological innovation, comfort, safety, drivability, energy efficiency, environmental footprint and total cost of ownership.
