Elinor Batteries, a Norwegian battery production company, has announced a strategic partnership with Chinese battery giant Morlus Technology. This collaboration is set to accelerate the development of Elinor’s battery manufacturing base in Orkland, Norway, with commercial sales expected in Europe by the spring of 2025.

Key Highlights:

  • Strategic Partnership: Elinor Batteries collaborates with Morlus Technology to leverage cutting-edge battery technology and expertise.
  • Gigafactory Development: Plans for a gigafactory in Orkland are set to advance, with an investment decision targeted for 2025.
  • Market Launch: Elinor Batteries aims to launch products for order as early as this fall, positioning itself for a leading role in the European market.
  • Global Impact: Morlus Technology seeks to expand its global footprint through this partnership, focusing on sustainable, low-carbon battery production in Norway.

Elinor Batteries, based in Central Norway, has partnered with Morlus Technology, a leader in battery innovation and factory construction. This partnership grants Elinor access to advanced battery technology and the expertise needed to establish a robust battery value chain in the Nordic region. Elinor is expected to bring its batteries to the European market by spring 2025.

Elinor Giga Factories planned on the Eiktyr Giga Site. The site is being developed to house a diverse industrial cluster, leveraging surplus energy and materials to substantially reduce the total mass and carbon footprint.

“We are honored that world-leading battery technologists have chosen to collaborate with us. This level of expertise does not currently exist in Europe, and it is crucial for our plans to establish a battery value chain in the Nordic region,” said Arne Fredrik Lånke, CEO of Elinor Batteries.

Shen Xi, founder of Morlus Technology, has been at the forefront of battery technology for over two decades, leading innovations at BYD, the world’s largest electric vehicle supplier. The agreement between Morlus and Elinor encompasses product development, production, and factory construction, setting the stage for a significant advancement in battery production in Norway.

Elinor Batteries, supported by the renewable energy investment company Valinor, aims to solidify its market position in Europe. The timing is seen as ideal, given the booming battery market and Europe’s push towards self-sufficiency in energy storage.

“The battery market is booming, and Europe is striving to become self-sufficient in batteries. According to the IEA, new energy storage is crucial for 60% of the emission reductions needed in the energy sector by 2030. Batteries are now the world’s fastest-growing energy technology,” stated Lars Helge Helvig, owner of Valinor.

For Morlus Technology, the partnership offers an opportunity to produce green and low-carbon batteries, capitalizing on Norway’s renewable energy resources. This collaboration is expected to enhance both companies’ global impact and contribute significantly to the sustainable energy sector.

Elinor Batteries was founded by Valinor and is headquartered in Trondheim, with plans to establish a gigafactory in the Eiktyr giga-site and industrial park in Orkland municipality. Morlus Technology, with its extensive patent portfolio and advanced manufacturing capabilities, is poised to play a key role in this ambitious project.
