Volvo Cars has turned on Plug & Charge for EX90 drivers in the United States, enabling automatic charging authentication and payment across more than 35,000 public stations. Announced this week, the feature lets drivers start a session by plugging in—with no app, credit card, or manual step—at participating networks that include Tesla Superchargers and IONNA locations. Plug & Charge reaches the Volvo EX60 when U.S. deliveries begin later this year, the company said.

- Plug & Charge handles authentication and payment automatically at more than 35,000 public charging stations, including Tesla Superchargers and IONNA locations.
- The feature is live for the EX90 now and extends to the EX60 when U.S. deliveries begin later this year.
- Drivers locate compatible stations through the built-in Google Automotive System and the Volvo Cars app, with charging stops added to routes.
- 2025 EX90 vehicles require the NVIDIA Orin core computer configuration to use Plug & Charge.
How Does Plug & Charge Work?
Plug & Charge automates the steps public charging usually requires. Once activated, the vehicle and the charging network handle authentication and payment between them, so the driver only needs to connect the cable to begin a session. The rollout adds to the charging options Volvo offers U.S. EV owners, which already span multiple fast-charging networks.
“The EX60 and EX90 reflect Volvo Cars’ vision for the future of mobility—vehicles that combine safety, sustainability, and human-centric technology,” said Jim Nichols, Head of Product, Technology & Consumer Offer, Volvo Car Americas. “With the addition of Plug & Charge, Volvo drivers can enjoy an even more seamless ownership experience, making public charging as simple as plugging in and walking away.”
Where Drivers Can Charge
Plug & Charge works across participating U.S. networks, including Tesla Superchargers and IONNA stations, for a current total of more than 35,000 locations. Volvo said additional charging partners will come online later. Drivers can find compatible stations through the built-in Google Automotive System and the Volvo Cars app, which can add charging stops to a route.
Availability and Requirements
Plug & Charge is available to EX90 drivers now and extends to the EX60 once U.S. deliveries start later this year. Volvo noted that 2025 EX90 vehicles need the NVIDIA Orin core computer configuration to use the feature. The EX60 can be ordered through authorized U.S. retailers and configured online.
