German energy company EnBW has signed a long-term framework agreement with charging infrastructure manufacturer XCharge. The multi-year deal focuses on 400 kW charging stations along with joint hardware and software development. EnBW already operates Germany’s largest fast-charging network with more than 8,000 points.
Highlights
- EnBW and XCharge formalized a multi-year partnership for high-performance charging hardware and software after a two-year field test across four German locations.
- Ten XCharge C7 Ultra-Fast Chargers completed over 20,000 charging sessions, delivering up to 400 kW per unit since December 2025.
- EnBW is diversifying its supplier base to strengthen supply chain resilience amid global uncertainties.
- XCharge plans European production in Valencia, Spain, to serve the regional market locally.
Field Test Validated Reliability
The partnership grew out of a comprehensive testing program running for more than two years. Ten XCharge C7 Ultra-Fast Chargers were deployed across four EnBW locations starting in December 2025. These included two fast-charging stations at EnBW City in Stuttgart, a site on the A8 in Rutesheim, and two Karlsruhe locations.
Each unit is capable of delivering up to 400 kW. Across more than 20,000 charging sessions, the stations demonstrated strong reliability. Those results formed the foundation for the broader agreement.

Supply Chain Diversification Drives the Deal
The framework agreement covers procurement of both hardware and software from XCharge. It centers on 400 kW stations, with potential for higher output in the future. Additionally, EnBW will receive exclusive access to XCharge’s new product developments.
Martin Roemheld, EnBW’s CEO responsible for e-mobility, said the company aims to create a more reliable and convenient fast-charging experience. He emphasized that diversifying the supplier base is increasingly important given global uncertainties and volatile supply chains. As a result, EnBW’s first new fast-charging parks with XCharge equipment will enter the implementation phase in the coming weeks.
EnBW Targets 20,000 Fast-Charging Points by 2030
EnBW currently operates more than 8,000 fast-charging points across Germany through its HyperNet network. The company has set a target of 20,000 fast-charging points nationwide by 2030. Its HyperNet platform also provides access to over 900,000 charging points across Europe.
Meanwhile, the company operates Austria’s largest fast-charging network through the SMATRICS EnBW joint venture. The EnBW mobility+ service has been recognized as Germany’s top e-mobility provider for seven consecutive years.
XCharge Strengthens European Presence
XCharge maintains dual headquarters in Hamburg, Germany and Austin, Texas. The company operates European test centers and offices in Hamburg and Madrid, with team members across multiple countries.
To improve supply chain sustainability, XCharge is opening a production facility in Valencia, Spain. This site will manufacture all charging stations destined for the European market. Albina Iljasov, XCharge’s Head of Europe, called the EnBW partnership an important milestone that confirms their stations’ reliability and performance.
