EnergyHub and Emporia Unite for EV Home Charging Revolution

What’s Happening

EnergyHub, renowned for its distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS), is entering into a promising alliance with Colorado’s smart home energy management technology company, Emporia. This partnership aims to offer utility consumers an accelerated, cost-effective charging system that aligns with all EV brands and models.

Why It Matters

A survey shows that above 80 percent of EV owners would opt for home charging, provided they have access to a charger. Utilities nationwide are leveraging EnergyHub’s EV platform, expanding the variety of eligible electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) models for program participation. This expansion not only broadens utility customer choice but also bolsters utility programs that foster grid reliability and customer savings.

Key Points

Matt Johnson, EnergyHub’s VP of Business Development, expressed his enthusiasm about the Emporia integration, highlighting its potential to diversify hardware choices for utility consumers and simplify the utility program enrollment process. The initial rollout of this technology will occur within Dominion Energy’s managed charging program this summer, with plans for further expansion into additional utility programs in the future.

Emporia’s Level 2 EV Charger, through the EnergyHub EV platform, empowers utility customers to participate in managed charging, behavioral charging, and charging analytics programs. Moreover, it provides a robust charge (48 amps) and an extended cable (24 feet), setting it apart from other Level 2 EV chargers at the same price. It also features a complete smart home energy management integration.

Shawn McLaughlin, Emporia’s CEO, affirmed the company’s commitment to delivering savings for customers through innovation in their partnership with EnergyHub.

Bottom Line

Having managed over a million devices, EnergyHub has seen a more than 200 percent surge in the number of electric vehicles partaking in their EV programs in 2022. Incorporating groundbreaking technologies like Emporia’s will empower utilities to derive grid value from EVs and optimize program performance, all while ensuring customer satisfaction.

EnergyHub operates as an independent subsidiary of Alarm.com (NASDAQ: ALRM), the premier platform for intelligently connected properties. This union has the potential to redefine the EV charging landscape, echoing their commitment to green energy and customer-focused solutions.
