Charge Point Operator (CPO) PowerGo and leading European hotel owner Essendi (formerly AccorInvest) have announced a strategic partnership to deploy EV charging solutions at numerous hotels across the Netherlands. This collaboration allows hotel guests and visitors to conveniently charge their electric vehicles. The initial charging stations are already active and available for use.

Key Highlights:

  • PowerGo and Essendi have partnered to install a network of EV chargers at Essendi-operated hotels in the Netherlands.
  • Each hotel will feature at least one 150 kW ultra-fast charger and multiple 22 kW chargers to accommodate various charging needs.
  • The first operational chargers are located at hotels in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, with more locations planned.
  • The partnership emphasizes sustainability by using 100% green energy and implementing a dynamic pricing model to encourage off-peak charging.

Expanding Charging Infrastructure

The new charging network will significantly enhance the amenities available to travelers. Each participating hotel will be equipped with a combination of charging technologies. The inclusion of at least one 150 kW ultra-fast charger ensures that drivers can add significant range in a short amount of time, while several 22 kW chargers will be available for guests who plan to charge overnight or during a longer stay.

The initial rollout includes prominent hotels in the North Holland and South Holland provinces. Key locations receiving the new chargers include the Mercure Amsterdam City, Ibis and Ibis Budget Amsterdam Airport at Schiphol, and the Novotel hotels in Amsterdam City and Rotterdam Brainpark.

The Mercure Amsterdam City became the first location to go live in May, offering six 22 kW charging points. Two 150 kW ultra-fast chargers will be installed once a planned grid upgrade is complete. In June, the Novotel Amsterdam City launched its own station, featuring two 150 kW chargers and six 22 kW chargers. Installations at other hotels are scheduled to follow as the partnership explores further expansion opportunities.

A Commitment to Sustainability

This initiative aligns with both companies’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies. All electricity provided through the PowerGo network is generated from solar parks operated by its parent company, PowerField.

Furthermore, the partnership introduces dynamic pricing, which adjusts the cost of charging based on the real-time price of electricity. This model incentivizes drivers to charge during periods of high renewable energy availability, which helps balance the electrical grid and often results in lower costs for the consumer.

Martijn van der Graaf, Chief Operating Officer for Western Europe at Essendi, stated, “This partnership fits perfectly within our ESG strategy, which aims to promote positive hospitality. By working with PowerGo, we’re providing our customers with concrete solutions for more environmentally friendly mobility.”

Paul Sieljes, Head of Operations at PowerGo, added, “By offering guests and visitors a user-friendly and sustainable charging experience, we help hotels strengthen their commitment to sustainability while enhancing the overall guest experience.”
