FLO Joins U.S. Department of Energy-Led Consortium to Improve EV Charging Infrastructure

What’s Happening

FLO, a forerunner in North American electric vehicle (EV) charging, has been named a founding member of a new venture initiated by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Along with the other participants in the National Charging Experience Consortium (ChargeX Consortium), FLO will seek to enhance the customer experience of public EV charging infrastructure through measurement and identification of improvement opportunities.

Why It Matters

The formation of the ChargeX Consortium signifies a critical shift in America’s EV industry. Cory Bullis, FLO’s Director of Public Affairs, emphasizes the Consortium’s overarching mission: to revolutionize the American EV charging infrastructure. FLO’s participation underlines its commitment to offering superior EV charging experiences to consumers. Bullis states, “Together with our industry partners, our work has the potential to transform not only how we power our vehicles but also pave the way for a more sustainable future.”

Key Points

The primary aim of the ChargeX Consortium aligns with federal requirements mandating an uptime of over 97% for public charging stations, thereby ensuring a seamless and successful charging experience for EV drivers. This objective underscores the government’s commitment to improving EV infrastructure, aligning with growing demand for reliable and accessible EV charging.

In recent years, FLO has taken significant strides to elevate the EV charging experience. FLO’s initiatives include sponsoring the EV Charging Reliability Transparency Act in California, which was later enacted by Governor Gavin Newsom, and introducing legislation in conjunction with New York State Assembly members to mandate reliability data for all public and ratepayer-funded EV charging stations deployed across the state.

Bottom Line

As a pivotal player in the EV charging industry, FLO’s involvement in the ChargeX Consortium illustrates its dedication to optimizing the EV charging landscape. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the industry’s journey towards sustainable transportation, promising better and more reliable public charging services for EV drivers across the nation. With these ongoing efforts, FLO continues to strengthen its commitment to leading the charge for a greener future.
