GLS Germany has successfully completed a 30,000-kilometer trial of a Hyundai Xcient hydrogen fuel cell truck, equipped with an Allison 4000 Series™ fully automatic transmission. Over 100,000 packages were delivered using this eco-friendly vehicle, marking a significant step towards sustainable logistics in Europe.

- 30,000 kilometers covered by GLS Germany with the hydrogen fuel cell truck.
- Over 100,000 packages delivered in the greater Cologne area.
- The truck has been used for long-distance trips between Cologne and Mannheim since March 2024.

- Zero breakdowns or issues reported during the trial, emphasizing the reliability of the vehicle.
- Hydrogen fuel cell system offers 180 kilowatts (241 horsepower) and a 350-kilowatt electric motor for enhanced performance.
- Agility and quiet operation make the truck suitable for night deliveries in populated areas.
Oualid Hamza, Operations Manager at GLS, expressed confidence in the technology: “We are open to new technologies and want to explore the various options. The main thing for us is that it works.”
The truck’s impressive performance, including fast acceleration without loss of tractive power, has been noted. Gero Liebig, Regional Manager at GLS, highlighted its ease of maneuverability and quiet operation: “It is great how agile the truck is and how easily and precisely it can be maneuvered thanks to the automatic transmission.”
Allison Transmission‘s patented torque converter has played a significant role in maximizing the truck’s efficiency, allowing it to operate with a smaller drive motor, thereby increasing range and reducing vehicle costs.
