Key Highlights

  • 59 BrightDrop electric vans have been donated by General Motors to the American Red Cross.
  • The vans will support the Red Cross Community Adaptation Program (CAP) and local nonprofit partners.
  • This donation aims to improve the delivery of health, hunger, and housing services and bolster local relief efforts during emergencies.
  • The contribution is part of GM’s long-standing partnership with the Red Cross, which spans over two decades.

Enhancing Community Resilience and Disaster Response

The donation of the BrightDrop electric vans will directly benefit local nonprofit organizations partnered with the Red Cross CAP. These organizations work to increase community resilience and lessen the impact of disasters on vulnerable populations. The electric vans will improve their ability to provide critical services before a disaster strikes and support relief operations in the aftermath of emergencies.

BrightDrop electric vans are specifically designed for demanding delivery needs, offering an estimated range of up to 296 miles per charge, over 600 cubic feet of cargo space, and a maximum payload of more than 3,700 pounds. This capability allows the American Red Cross and its partners to efficiently reach remote and underserved areas with necessary supplies.

“Getting disaster relief quickly to the people who need it most is a shared mission between General Motors and the American Red Cross,” said Ian Hucker, GM Envolve vice president. “Our donation of more than 50 BrightDrop electric vans supports their community outreach programs, enabling the American Red Cross to prepare and respond to those impacted.”

A Legacy of Partnership and Support

General Motors has been a committed partner to the American Red Cross for more than 20 years, joining its Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) in 2010. Through the ADGP, General Motors provides advance donations that help the Red Cross maintain a state of readiness with trained volunteers, essential resources, and innovative technology.

This ongoing support enables the Red Cross to respond to more than 65,000 disasters annually across the United States. In addition to financial contributions, GM has previously provided loaner vehicles for relief efforts and supported fundraising initiatives.

“For more than two decades, the Red Cross has relied on GM’s multifaceted support to help meet the needs of families across the country,” said Cliff Holtz, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. “We are deeply grateful for their continued commitment to our mission and their generosity.”
