GreenPower Motor Company Inc., a leader in the production and distribution of zero-emission electric vehicles, has announced plans to significantly expand its fleet of electric school buses in West Virginia by delivering 88 all-electric buses during the 2025 fiscal year. This move underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing eco-friendly transportation solutions across the United States.

Key Highlights:

  • 88 all-electric school buses to be delivered to West Virginia in fiscal year 2025.
  • This follows a record delivery year in 2024, marking a significant step towards sustainable transportation.
  • An $18,565,000 EPA grant awarded for the deployment, including funding for charging infrastructure.
  • Nearly 100 GreenPower electric school buses will be operational in West Virginia post-delivery.
  • Increased production capacity expected to reach 50-60 buses per quarter by fiscal year 2025 end.

Fraser Atkinson, CEO of GreenPower, emphasized the company’s efforts in manufacturing all-electric, purpose-built school buses. “GreenPower is currently manufacturing all-electric, purpose-built school buses purchased by the state of West Virginia in its South Charleston plant,” Atkinson stated. The buses are part of a larger initiative supported by the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program, aiming to provide safer and healthier transportation for students.

The funding for this initiative, including the essential charging infrastructure, was highlighted by Mark Nestlen, GreenPower’s Vice President of Business Development & Strategy. “The EPA funding for both the school buses and the charging infrastructure will ensure a safe and healthy ride for the students,” Nestlen said, acknowledging the successful pilot project that demonstrated the buses’ effectiveness in West Virginia’s challenging terrain.

With this expansion, West Virginia is set to become a leading state in electric school bus deployment. The record number of deliveries in the fiscal year 2024 has set a precedent for GreenPower’s growing impact in the sector. Brendan Riley, GreenPower President, also noted the commercial division’s achievements and anticipated growth, reflecting the broader industry trend towards electric vehicles.

This strategic move by GreenPower not only highlights the increasing shift towards sustainable transportation solutions but also demonstrates the practical implementation of electric vehicles in various sectors, promising a cleaner, healthier future.
