Hanon Systems, a global leader in automotive thermal management for electrified mobility, recently opened its new engineering center in Palmela, Portugal. This state-of-the-art facility is strategically located within the company’s compressor manufacturing campus, operational since 1998 in the Setúbal District, roughly 25 kilometers south of Lisbon.
The newly inaugurated center is designed to enhance the company’s capabilities in electric scroll compressors, crucial for heat pump systems, marking it as Hanon Systems’ European flagship. The engineering center, spanning two floors, provides 2,488 square meters of space dedicated to advancing test operations, prototype assembly, and housing engineering staff.
Key onsite features include inverter software development, compressor design and prototyping, as well as comprehensive environmental, climatic, and electrical/electronic performance testing. Facilities also comprise four meeting rooms, a large auditorium, and cafeteria services, emphasizing the center’s role in fostering innovation and collaboration.
The inauguration was celebrated with a media event attended by company executives and local officials. Nurdal Kücükkaya, the president and co-CEO of Hanon Systems, highlighted the center’s significance: “This engineering center is a testament to the company’s commitment to sustain its leadership position by supporting the needs of the business and our customers through local technical expertise and state-of-the-art testing capabilities.”
The center currently employs nearly 100 specialists, with plans for future expansion to meet growing business demands.
